Remember the Kyoto Treaty. Industrial Nations, keep on blaming China & India for their carbon emission into the environment.

I agree that china & india does release carbon gases that contribute to global warming, but its the indsutrial nations that started it first, instead of them being the leading nations to reduce their emission significantly, esp. US under Bush Administration which refuse to reduce, but complain about other nations.

if Leaders of Industrialised nations are willingly to reduce significatnly, i am sure with their major influence in the world, they are able to force alot of nations into re-thinking about the green environment. Esp. The US. Their influence is so great in the world, they should join the kyoto and start to change their stragety.

The reason Kyoto failed is that there were no controls at all on China and India, who are both in the top 10 nations in the world releasing CO2.

With today's technology, reducing CO2 levels enough to make an impact will destroy the economy of the entire world. Our energy technology hasn't advanced as quickly as our appetite for energy. And, it's possible that science will never be able to solve this problem. Solar, wind, tides, hydroelectric, hydrogen, biomass, etc. all work, but they are so insignificant that they will never replace fossil fuels. Nuclear fission can in theory, but we all know the risks associated with it, and there's a finite supply of Uranium. Nuclear fusion is nothing but a theory, and even the best scientists say it could be 100 years before it's practical (if at all).

The thing about China and India is that they both have populations exceeding one billion, the amount of poillution per head of the population is small - China ranks 99th in the world and India is 132nd, they've probably moved up the rankings since the list was compiled but they're still nowhere near the top.

Many countries have shown that it is possible to expand their economies and reduce greenhouise gas emissions at the same time, this has been the case in many European countries for instance. In fact, it's the countries that have taken steps to reduce their emissions that are doing the best economically. The world is demanding environmentally conscious goods and services and the countries that are able to supply them are prospering - just look at how strong the Yen, Euro and Pound are compared to the Dollar. The US has left it late in the day to 'go green' and is now suffering economically as it tries to supply out-dated goods to a global market which has evolved.

One of the problems that countries like China and India face is that we've effectively exported a lot of our polluting industries to them. Instead of having factories and manufacturing plants at home we now import goods from elsewhere. If we produiced our own goods as we did in the past then pollution levels here would be much higher and thoise of China and India would be much lower. It's somewhat hypocritical to blame a country for it's emissions when it's us that's effectively causing them in the first place.

That would be because there remains no actual PROOF that anything we do caused global warming, so why should we stop?

How about you live your life the way you want and we'll live ours the way we want and nobody gets to blame anyone for anything without being able to PROVE it.

According to the best estimates we would need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions worldwide to less than one tenth of what they are today if we are to have any hope of stopping Global Warming.

To accomplish that we would have to shut down the economies of all of the countries in the world.

We would have to ban all motorized forms of transport. There could be no automobiles, motor scooters, motorcycles, buses, trucks, trains, planes or shipping.

Do you ever take any form of motorized transport? Do you ever ride the bus? Do you buy or receive food that has been delivered by truck?

If so, you are contributing to Global Warming. Stop That!

Next, we would have to shut down all manufacturing including steel making and cement making.

Do you own anything that thas been manufactured? Do you own anything that has steel in it? Do you walk on sidewalks with cement in them?

If so, you are contributing to Global Warming. Stop That!

Next we would have to shut down the generation of electricity by the use of fossil fuels.

Do you ever use any electricity, read anything by electric light, listen to the radio, watch TV, use the computer?

If you do you are contributing to Global Warming. Stop That!

Next we would have to ban the heating and air conditioning of all homes, offices and factories.

Do you live in or ever visit a structure that is ever heated or air conditioned?

If so, you are contributing to Global Warming. Stop That!

Next we would have to ban the heating of all water that is used for washing or bathing.

Do you ever bathe in water that has been heated?

If so you are contributing to Global Warming. Stop That!

Go take a cold shower!

Even with all of these restrictions we would still not reach our goal of reducing our carbon dioxide emissions to less than one tenth of what they are today.

We would have to get the cooperation of all of the countries on this planet or we could not come anywhere near our goal of reducing our carbon dioxide emissions world wide to less than one tenth of what they are today.

The People's Republic of China has stated very emphatically that tey will not reduce their use of fossil fuel. In fact they plan to increase their use of fossil fuel dramatically.

The People's Republic of China alone emits enough carbon dioxide to cause Global Warming even if you get the carbon dioxide emissions of every other country on this planet reduced to zero.

Essentially we cannot reduce carbon dioxide emissions sufficiently to stop Global Warming or even reduce it significantly for that matter.

The reductions of co2 emissions that you get by more recycling, buying hybrid cars and using compact fluorescent lightbulbs are so small in comparison to all of the other sources of carbon dioxide emissions that they are really rather insignificant.

If we cannot stop Global Warming, can we mitigate the effects of Global Warming at a reasonable cost?

The answer is a resounding yes!

The sea levels will rise. Fortunately coastal areas can be protected by dike systems similar to those in Holland.

Hurricanes will become stronger and more frequent.

We need to help the poor countries upgrade their existing disaster preparedness systems.

Droughts will become more frequent.

We need to help the poor countries with supplemental water supplies and desalination plants.

We cannot stop Global Warming, but we can mitigate the effects of Global Warming at reasonable cost.
