Without having to do the following: insult them, saying shut up, any kind of physical violence, changing the subject, walking away, ignoring them, and pretending to listen?

Tell them you accidentally ran over your dog this morning and you really can't deal with them right now...

Whatever they are talking about, try to think of a way to turn the conversation to how much you are looking forward to your colonoscopy.
You could put something in their drink to make their mouth burn.
Start blinking or scratching uncontrollably--they'll think something's wrong, and just play it like you need to go rest or take some medicine or something.
Move to a monastery where all the monks have taken a vow of silence.
Keep glancing over their shoulder, until they notice and ask what you're looking at. Make something up, that you can barely see, and try to point it out to them.

Ask them often to repeat themselves. This has a way of shutting them down out of frustration on their part.
