Guiness was so smooth that I actually almost like it. Does anyone know why this might be other than personal taste? Do they make it with something different than other beers or... Serious question not a commercial!

Great Guinness is world class beer.

It is smooth for a couple of reasons.
1. The body of the beer: Guinness uses roasted malts that impart a smooth rich and complex mouth-feel. The notes coffee, deep roasted nuts, and any you find specific in your taste analysis.

2. It is lightly carbonated: as with most continental beers Guinness does not push the carbonation threshold to over produce carbonic acid. Unfortunately, many many beers in the USA does. In addition in certain package (this relates to carbonation) Guinness employs nitrogen to help created a rich head.

Note: Bud Dry is not the most alcoholic beer in the USA. Many examples that contain a higher level of alcohol include, Anchor's Old Foghorn, Sierra Nevada's Big Foot Barleywine, and Boston Beer Company has at least two beers; Samuel Adams Triple Bock and Optimus-the strongest beer in the world. There are other examples of strong-stronger beers.

***Guinness is an ale. Guinness is a stout style ale and not a lager as suggested by some-one here.

Guinness is a lager beer and much heavier, surprised you like it over as miller lite or a corona. Corona is not so much like other beers and with a lime, not so bad. There are many different types of beer, go to a brewery restaurant an order a taste mix, where they give you in shot glasses 9-10 different beers to sample-easiest way to see which ones you prefer! I dislike beer too, but have took a sip on occasion, I am a wine person, but will taste anything to see if it is a like or a dislike. You may also want to look at alcohol content Bud Ice is the highest of domestic beers for percent wise. If you prefer mixed drinks, why not make or order them>? I have lots of recipes if you want any. and there is a drink made with beer, may sound nasty but is actually good,I don't like beer or gin but will drink this-and a catchy name too! A skip and go naked-it is made with beer, sweet & sour mix, grenadine, and gin-shaken not stirred straight up or on ice-you will be the envey of any bar! with that in hand, manly and cool! Cheers! Tash

Strange you should find Guinness (for a non beer drinker) your beer of choice. It is a heavy dark beer.
I'm enjoying a nice cold stubbie of coopers original pale ale right now and I know that most non beer drinkers find it too flavorsome and opt for an easy drinking larger like Tooheys new, carlton draught or carlsbourg.
Guinness has malt and caramel overtones, very little acid and a delightfully creamy head which adds to its unique charm.

Guinness is a beer of it's own. My best friend didn't like beer, but her ears perked up when she tried it. My mother, too. I love Guinness- I like it cold (my apologies to the beer snobs), and it has to come from a tap where you know they serve a lot of it, so it's fresh.
As for the beer itself, the flavor comes from unfermented roasted barley. It has a lot of antioxidants, good stuff for your body. Also, a 20 oz. pint of the stuff has only 198 calories which is LESS than the same amount of milk, orange juice, or other non-light beers.

So here's to you, cheers!

I'm a girl, and I can eat as much as my boyfriend. When we have dinner together, he stuffs himself even if hes not that hungry just so he can eat more food that me. Personally, I dont care what/how much he eats, but he cares about "his pride." Your date shouldn't care what/how much you drink (unless you're driving home wasted) and if she does care, she isn't really worth a second date anyway. The only reason you should care is if drinking less than your date "hurts your pride." And the lesson I hope you learned: Next time you go to the cheesecake factory, order your drink before she gets a chance.

so many beers. and the hard ciders are like a beer.
why not go to a first class liquor store. they have greater selection and some have single bottles and cans. try a few to see what is best to your taste.

I've heard that Ireland gives it to nursing mothers, It's packed with all kinds of good things for you, They call it a meal in a glass. I find it tastes like ear wax. But I think it depends on the storage, delivery and temperature of it.
