i go to tafe college(coz i didnt get enogh marks in the yr12 exams to go to uni) and my younger sis goes to yr12.

im the eldest in the family.

a few mins ago my father was telling my sis that she should really study hard and go to uni. he wants to suprise the family if she goes to uni. he specifically said that he doesnt want her to end up in tafe.

would that mean that he is shamefull that me, his eldest daughter, has "ended up" in tafe???

No, he is not ashamed of you. He is just trying to encourage your younger sister to get the best marks she can so she can go to the university.

People, for some silly reason, tend to think that the university is "The place to go". Little do they know that a degree is a degree is a degree. The world by and large doesn't care where you got your degree from unless you going to some big law firm or medical facility and went to Yale or Harvard.

It sounds like tafe is a 2 year college? Maybe he's just trying to motivate your sister. After you graduate tafe, you can apply at a university. Good luck.

Tafe just doesn't have the glory that uni does. It's not considered an accomplishment as it is filled with people who didn't get the required marks to get into university.

There is nothing wrong with getting an education.
Where your going shouldn't be a problem, as long as your doing your best.

Who cares if they find it shameful as long as you are bettering yourself as a person and pursuing something you enjoy why should it make any difference
