Because I was thinking about this hard...maybe too hard. I thought, well, people who use logic are so sure that their thinking is logical. How do they know for sure and certain? They dont. They have faith that thinking logically is logical. Go ahead if you want and say this question is stupid and unlogical. I really dont care.

If you based them on logic you would see they are total nonsense, so of course it is different.

Your question isn't a bad one, but your, well, "logic" in how you arrive at your conclusion is anything but :)

After all, "life" could be nothing more than a play in your head and you're a drooling vege in a padded room. So if we can get past that and agree we all do exist, then both logic and faith can exist. Pretty simple really, logic is "a particular mode of reasoning viewed as valid or faulty", or put another way "interrelation or sequence of facts or events when seen as inevitable or predictable", and really when it comes down to it, if someone provides an argument, and your first thought is "what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?" then that person is likely not being logical.

Faith on the other hand is simply choosing to believe something. You may or may not have any logic regarding your belief, and in the end, logic will not back you up IMHO with respect to faith, because, to be cliche, "it takes a leap of faith" implies, quite succinctly, that you cannot "know", but you choose to "believe".

Now, as for you not caring; I don't buy that for a second. If you didn't care, you would have written this in your diary rather then here ;-)

It is not a stupid or illogical question and you are right there isn't a difference. In the end logical thinking is simply the faith that logic is indeed logical. In the end humans really can't be 100% sure of anything other then that we are on a planet in a swirling vortex of countless other planets and stars (and some would even dispute that) so then everything is really based on faith alone, it just isn't always faith in the same thing. I have faith in logic over religion and I always will, just as others have faith in God and most likely always will and I respect that as I hope they respect my beliefs in return. In the end I suppose faith is faith, it is undefinable, a variable beyond are comprehension or control.

That is all I have to say.

I know some will not like my answer. But how is it so many people do rely on just that faith in God. We look for Him and He is showing us the way to eternal life. Logic is just that one person logic and someone else and so forth. But the faith we have is always the same.

Your question is illogical!!!

most logic relies on proof and reference to known fact. Therefore if you do not believe it then you are either not intelligent enough to know or refer to facts or you are deliberately hiding from it because of a weak faith!!

Logic -

a fire is hot - putting your hand into it would burn.

Trying to breath in water fills your lungs with water and you drown.

Standing in front of a high speed vehicle will get you knocked down and killed.

Faith -

Having faith that you can survive any of the above will kill you!!!!

Can you base your beliefs on logic? You are starting with a belief. Also you must start with a premise. You must have faith that your logic is correct. You must have faith that each of your premises are correct. You must have faith that correct premises and following the laws of logic will lead you to a correct conclusion. I guess I just don't have enough faith to be an atheist.

You are correct: logic is dependent on faith.

What I cannot understand is why people think the Scientific Method is based only on facts. The last step is based on logic which, in turn, is based on faith or assumption.

Additionally, those projections on Wall Street and in scientific experiments, are based on FAITH.

On the other hand, Christians are chided for having blind faith. This is not true. Christian based their faith on evidence from which extrapolations are made.

I do not think your question is stupid or illogical. When one employs logic, one uses facts, statistics, or other forms of proof. There has to be, for the logical person, facts to support any hypothesis. Truth be told, it might be said that a logical person is certain that there is or is not sufficient evidence to support any given hypothesis.

Faith is based on something. Christians base their faith on the text of the bible. The 66 books paint a clear picture of how God has delat with people through time and how he deals with us today. You must be a logical and reasonable person to embrace the bible for what it is and how it can restore your broken relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Faith gives basis to logic and reason.

show me a theist who believes that logic and faith are equal flying 20,000 feet in a commercial airliner and I will show you a hypocrite.

You used logic and reason to conclude that taking a commercial airliner was the quickest way to get from point a to point b. You could believe that you could fly through the air like superman all you want. But you can't. Logic and reason allows us to predict the future and to influence events to our desires. Faith does not. It is really simple.
