Tom Monaghan, the founder of the Domino's Pizza chain, plans to build a town based on Catholic principles. He hopes eventually that the town will have a stable population of 30,000 along with 5,000 students attending a Catholic University.

The land for the new town, 'Ave Maria' is situated 145 km NW of Miami. Abortion, the sale of contraceptives and pornography will not be permitted in the town. The local cable television network will be prevented from carrying X-rated channels.

Monaghan grew up in a Catholic orphanage, served with the marines for a time and founded Domino's Pizza which he sold in 1997 for 1.5 billion dollars. He has financed many religious projects including schools and radio stations.

I hope he remembers that the Catholic Church seeks and supports the freedom of religion for all human beings.

In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states:

The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits.

For the entire document, see: http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651207_dignitatis-humanae_en.html

With love in Christ.

It is no different than a gated community - this is the future of America.

People who want to seclude themselves from the corruption of those that are different - I dont have a problem with it - it is the anti-salad bowl mentality.

What is wrong with not allowing the open sewers of abortion, porn, condoms, and x-rated movies in your town ? this is the root of Americas decline ..

Im going out to get a Dominos pizza - FOR BREAKFAST !!

Interesting, but I do have one problem with that:

No contraceptives? That is very wrong and unhealthy. I love my man, but we do not want to have children--we are doing a good thing and adopting children. I would never live in a town that said it was wrong for me to choose not to have kids. Good luck with that.

Neat. We should round up all the Catholics into a barbed wire fence off in some secluded town. Great idea.
