Drinking water does so many good things for you I can't list them here. But here is a new one I learned recently: if you become dehydrated, your brain shrinks. After it shrinks, it never goes back to the size it was before you became dehydrated. That is one reason we become senile as we age.
You find the amount you should drink by dividing your weight by 2, then drinking that many ounces of water a day.
For a more scholarly discussion of water, do a search for the "health benefits of drinking water." There is a lot there. You may also find RealAge.com, and Prevention.com very helpful.

Drinking water keeps you hydrated, which is something you need considering a large percent of the human body is water.
To know if you're getting dehydrated check the colour of your urine. If it's white, you're fine. If you see it slightly yellow, you're starting to get dehydrated and if it's dark yellow, that's a sign of danger and you need to go get yourself a bottle of water.
