I was at Talladega last year for the first race after it was resurfaced and it made for some incredible racing. It also made the cars go just a bit faster, thus NASCAR had to put in a new restrictor plate for the race.

With "beatin and bangin" Bristol being repaved it just adds a whole new level of excitement I believe Race Fans will love. The cars will go faster; there will be no groove so you may see some passing on the outside. I brings an element of suprise to the race. Can't wait to see the results under the lights in August.

Bristol is always a good race. Yes, I've seen a few truck races there and they did put on a much better race than the Cup guys. Truck race tickets are usually around $20 to $25 bucks and for a Wednesday night, the place is packed! The old concrete at Bristol was abnormally rough. The new stuff looks pretty smooth.

They should have re-paved it in DIRT. Then we'd see who could REALLY drive.

BTW...when they ran the UMP race down there a few years ago....the UMP DIRT cars smoked the Cup record, AND they did it on dirt, sideways, without the 36 degrees of banking. The dirt on the track was actually flattened out compared to what the concrete is.

amethyst, Where did you get that information??? Most of the current track records were set right after re-paving of the track. Re-paving IMPROVES the grip on the track, thus making the cars stick to the track better, decrease lap times, and increase competition. The ONLY way it hurts the cars, is that the teams have to find a new set-up, since the track surface has changed. Albeit it's not a totally new change (except when a track goes from asphalt to concrete), but it still takes time to find the right set-up. They usually find it in the first practice on a new surface.

I will let you know on tuesday, We have a open test with the Truck series on monday( 7-23-07). The Busch series has an open test there on tuesday (7-24-07). I hope they got rid of the bump in turn 4, if you hit it just right it threw you into the wall. I hope they also repaved pit road, it needed it. Our truck race at Bristol is on Wedneday AUGUST 22, an the cup is there on Saturday night AUGUST 25. Nothing against the cup boys( GO TONY GO), But if you want to see another great race, come an watch the truck race. ( GO Brandon Miller #40 GO)

I know Bristol is a crowd favorite but it can't be because of the passing and the side by side racing there. Maybe this will let it happen.
Scraping the wall is OK unless your MW. his wreck there has to be one of the worst in Busch and cup racing history. I would have put money on he was dead. The car was in pieces and you couldn't see where he was and they went over and picked the hood up and there he was still sitting in his seat looking right at the person who lifted it. DW was on the side line with tears in his eyes I suppose figuring his brother had bought the farm.

I've only seen a couple of Bristol races, and I'm sure that the Spring's was the only one to have a drag-race finish... but it wasn't a good enough finish, hopefully this re-paving can create some good racing... and finishes :D They seem to be on a roll with that this year.

Here's hoping they got it right. The smartest thing they did was re-install concrete and not asphalt, ask Las vegas , Goodyear and a whole bunch of wrecked Busch cars how they liked that track.Bristol already a fan favorite may have just gotten better.
