In 1996, Pope Benedict, then Cardinal Ratzinger , branded rock music an "instrument of the Devil" and urged young people not to listen to it for fear of endangering their souls.
Pope Benedict, then head of the modern successor to the Inquisition, said there were "diabolical and satanic messages" in much of today's heavy metal music. But he also warned the young against the "subliminal" satanic influence to be found in songs by such groups as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.
I decided to play Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles backwards to find out.
You can imagine how upset I was when I heard the words, repeated over and over in the chorus, "Lactate into my hubcap Sir Jeffrey".
Isn't it time we listened to the Church and stopped this filth being sold to our children?

Christians of all people have true freedom. Martin Luther said, the Christian is free from all, obliged to honor no earthly power, yet slave to all, obliged to love all men. As Jesus said, it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles, but what comes out of the heart. Music does not sanctify us, and it cannot condemn us. The beliefs of the heart are what is important to God. The question is, how does the lyrical content of the music affect what we are believing about God and about ourselves? Popular music is loaded with messages. This is no accident. That the Devil seeks to control minds through the onslaught of popular media is hardly something a wise person would deny. Contemporary Christian music is artistically vapid, generally, but the messages are certainly different. Sometimes, even Christian music, is loaded with carnally minded lyrics that are contrary to real faith. But one has to be up on the Bible to really see this. Sometimes I think about the many rockstars who have died young, and when certain songs come on the radio, it's chilling. A couple of examples: "I'm on the highway to hell..." ---Bonn Scott, dead of alcohol poisoning not long after this song came out "married, buried, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah..." --Kurt Cobain, in fact, married, and then shortly thereafter, buried. Yours in Christ, Nick

Yes, and I'm talking about the way the instruments are played (and not necessarily about the lyrics).
Trace the history : voudum (voodoo) drums from West Africa brought to the Americas by the slaves; Elvis was white boy who attended a Black church; birth of Rock and Roll (a euphemism for illicit sex in the back seats of cars); then the various chronological genres of rock .
Most of Contemporary Christian Music is not fit for Christians !! Sure, the expressions 'god', 'love' etc are used but the effect is musical not lyrical. Basically, Christians want to be like everybody else AND still pretend that they are Christians.

If you listen to the Eagles then you remember American Pie talked about the change in rock music. I think rock music is most dangerous to the rock stars who take drugs and commit suicide nearly every day. If someone is so easily turned away from Christ that easy then they didn't understand in the first place. We can't be like some other religions that keep people in the dark, it shows a religion that is weak. Christianity is not weak but I hate to refute the pope. I am sure he means well but I doubt that he's living the life most people have to live. Jesus did live among common people.

um ok your reading way to much into someone elses personal censorship of the music buis. it's all fine and good that you don listen to it. someone tried to do what you are attempting to do and her name was Tipper Gore, and well that history.
Why stop at Rock and Roll, and Heavy Metal, what about Country and all the bad lyrics in those songs. WELL.
it really gets to me when people can't get it into their heads that they need medication or forget to take them.
and by the way for the record Queen played at Live Aide (if i'm right) which helped with hunger in Africa.
and not all music is bad, Megadeath's count down to extinction is just that bringing out the idea of animals becoming extinct from the hunt.
Metalica's One is one of the most recoginzed Anti-war songs out there.
Queens We will rock you, and we are the champions are two the most played songs at sporting events.
Iron Maidens Rhyme of the ancient marrenier, brought a generation of people to realize there are some really dam good short stories out there.
Before you guys start reading to much into music take a look at the history of your religion. it aint that clean you were once call a CULT, the only difference right now is the amount of people that "believe" in the B.S.
one more tidbit of info Mr. James Hetfield "lead singer of Metalica" was born and raise Strict Catholic mother refused to let him learn about the human body in school, because God would take care of you. SO THERE BIBLE THUMPPER

I'll never forget waiting in line for a Metallica concert and 2 rabid Christians were out front protesting them as satanic music... I assumed they knew nothing about their music or the musicians themselves, because during the concert Metallica actually said "God bless you friends." multiple times. Too bad those protesters weren't inside to hear it.
Ignorance leads to fear and hatred, and hiding inside a church breeds ignorance for many people.

People have been saying this about rock music since 1955. " Our children" who listened to it back then are in their 60's. I think we all turned out OK being raised on rock.
