Why does the father give the daughter away? Its not like he owns her. And by doing that, is that saying the husband owns the wife? Thats not right either. Why is it that many feel that men are dominant?

The Bible explains the woman is not owned by her husband but the two become one flesh. The man is the head of the family so the Father gives his daughter in marriage. The husband is head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church and the spirit should rule the flesh. It is the same reason Christ was in submission to the Father. It is the order of God. It demonstrates that flesh is in submisssion to the spirit. We are one person but our spirit should rule over our flesh..The Father and the Son are one but the Son is in submission to the Father.

It's an old tradition that is left over from times when women were considered the property of a man. When a man decided he wanted to marry, he would go to the father and ask for his daughters hand in marriage. The father would then "give" the daughter away

Think about it this way....marriage is ownership for the man.

Before DNA tests the ONLY way a man could be certain a child was his was to have exclusive vaginal rights- hence marriage. The father protects that exclusivity so that his daughter has VALUE.

Sad isn't it

It has nothing to do with ownership. The daddy daughter relationship is very special and when the father "gives" the daughter away he is saying that he realizes that he is no longer the "man" in her life but now her allegiance is to her husband. Any man who can call himself Christian could never consider himself the owner of another person. I hope this helps you.

Satan has deceived them as satan is the great deceiver of mankind. Moreover, the husband does not own the bride or his wife. But the husband only owns the marriage certificate. And once one of the spouses stop living with the other spouse, the marriage certificate can be annulled by the church or by the Court whichever. But the truth is that THE LORD JESUS CHRIST is that HE is the model of marriage as HE is the GROOM to the church which is HIS wife but does not treat her as a wife but loving her as a bride eternally.
