Would it be more believable? Would conspiracy theorists have alleged that it's more than just a fairy tale? Would it have become more significant to non-mormon people?

Many people believe that the Da Vinci code is actually a non-fiction book, even though it was clearly written as fiction, but based on some actual events and historical facts. That's why I ask this question.

Jenni, I'm really referring to Non-Mormons. Of Course if you are a Mormon, you're going to profess that you believe it is true.

So, if I understand your question correctly, you're wondering if the Book of Mormon would be more popular if it were marketed differently.

The problem with that approach would be that, marketing the Book of Mormon as anything but what it is would rob it of its power. It is a book of scripture, and we accept it as the word of God. Therefore, presenting it as fiction would be cheapening it and would undermine the entire purpose of the Book of Mormon.

Conspiracy theory is not just found in the Book of Mormon. You don't have to look far to find people who believe in conspiracies about things like the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the JFK assassination, and so forth. Real conspiracies to commit murder exist all over in our society in the form of gangs and organized crime groups. So I don't really think that the conspiracies described in the Book of Mormon are such a stretch -- rather they should be a warning to us, when we see how entertaining such awful deeds in their society led to the destruction of the Book of Mormon civilizations.

Interesting question!

The Davinci code is a fictional book and a horribly written one at that.

The Book of Mormon however is scripture which is defined as,"(from the Lat., ‘writing’), a document or collection of documents containing material that is highly esteemed in the religious community accepting the document(s). Such documents do not stand by themselves but are preserved and interpreted within ongoing religious communities that also have living traditions about worship, belief, and behavior. In late antiquity, Jews and Christians were not alone in esteeming written records of their religion. ..."

Fiction is defined as," a literary work based on the imagination and not necessarily on fact."

Just because some people believe a work is "non-fiction." doesn't mean it is so. Just check the shelf on the library where a book is found if you have any doubt.

No. It wouldn't be more believable under that title. On an unrelated point, there is so much to dispute the claim you made about the DaVinci code. It is not based on historical facts and actual events.
If you doubt that, read about Pierre Plantard. The fraud trial will be most interesting for you.

No. It is not a fictional conspiracy. Mormons is a part of the Christian body but divided body today and is very sick. The Prophet of the mormons- latter day saints is JOSEPH SMITH as Mohammad is the Prophet to the Islam; and Buddha is the prophet to the enlightened peoples and Ron Hubbard is the Prophet to the dead christians.

It's taken me some time to respond to this, but simply put, I do not have an adequate response to the "thriller" aspect. I'm still baffled about the herds of snakes, elephants, cureloms and cumoms.

Well, your question really doesn't make sense... you're asking Mormons if there was something that could be done to make the Book of Mormon more believable, when we believe in in wholly. I don't think it matters what you "label" it as, either you believe in it, or you don't.
