Older translations such as the KJV are in the public domain. Nevertheless, those who print them and those who sell them in a retail setting do make a profit. Newer translations such as the NIV are not in the public domain yet. The publisher does receive royalties from sales of these translations. Publishers like Zondervan tend to be quite generous with these rights though. For example, the complete NIV is offered at no charge on various websites with Zondervan's permission. Some ministries such as the American Bible Society sell NIV Bibles at an extremely low price. The publishers, printers, and retailers involved are receiving some income for their time and investment but they are not profiteering.

It's in the public domain (copyright expired) and therefore no royalties are payable to anybody. Copyright expires between 50 to 70 years after the death of the author, so we're long past that!

The kingdom of heaven gets the royalties . . . hint: the kingdom that owns most of the people who buy the bibles . . .

The KJV has no copyright, because the word of God is not to be owned.
But many of the newer versions of the Bible have. In order for a copyright to be given, the book must have sufficient changes from an other existing document to allow a copyright to be given.
Worth a thought. What version are you using?

Probably the publishers, just like any other company that prints novels or other types of books.

i've never had to pay for a bible......so, there are no royalties. unless you mean in the so-called christian churches. they make lots of money. i understand even the preachers/pastors/priests etc, get paid for their teachings! they even charge for performing ceremonies like weddings and funerals. big business. all of our ministers care for their families' needs, the congregations needs, and they go to work in the morning in order to make money to pay the rent! jesus said to take life's water free. he never said to charge for it. hypocrites!
