She spent the first year of her life under the house of a friend. When the friend died, we caught her and her brother. The mother had ran off and the father was the neighbors cat. Two days after they were fixed, they got out of the bathroom. one went in the laundry room and she went in the sun porch. The brother fell behind the water heater and suffocated. We caught her and then we moved. Shortly after, she got outside. we caught one cat that looked like her and kept her and then caught her. At the end of May, she got out again. we caught her on July 20. She did spend her given birthday outside, July 4th. The two cats have a special bond. What can I do to keep Susie (the one who gets out) and Sally happy (the one who goes crazy when Susie is missing)?

She always finds a way like a door isn't closed all the way. She is two and she hasn't spent alot of time inside.

Make the inside more enjoyable for them. Maybe get some floor plants, or even plant catnip for them! Make sure they have lots of toys. Leave windows open and maybe look into getting a window seat. Put the window seat in the window where the most sunlight gets in. Otherwise, get an empty squirt bottle at Wal-Mart, fill it with vinegar, and squirt the kitty when it nears the door and begs to be let out. This does not hurt the cat at all and since they hate the smell, it is a great teaching tool!

It certainly is possible for a cat to adapt to being an inside cat, just make sure you have lots of toys, and climbing places, this is important or your furniture becomes the gymnasium instead. Do you have space or the money (or a handy friend) that can build you a cat park that attaches to a cat door?
My cats are indoor cats, (we are in a rural area with lots of native animals and birds), and they go through a cat door, and into a cat park, which has arial tunnels through the garden, so they are outdoors, but still confined.

There is also a large wire enclosed playpen attached, with a kennel in it so that if it starts to rain they can get shelter if they don't want to come inside.

Two of my three cats were outside for a lenght of time before I adopted them and made him inside cats. My eldest, Jabba, was a house cat, then someone didn't want him anymore, so they kicked him outside and he had to fend for himself for however long, until some nice lady took him to a shelter where I adopted him. And my youngest, Solo, started out as a stray cat, lived outside for the first year of his life, until someone took him to the shelter where I adopted him.

I have no problem keeping them in the house. They LOVE to set in the windows and look outside and even stand to the screen door and look out. And they will get close to the door when open, but have yet to go out.

When we first got them we discourged them from going out/wouldn't let them. If they got near the open door, we would make a loud noice and they would run the other way. So they knew they were not allowed out. I have someone coming and going pretty much all of the time and I have not had a problem with them leaving, of course they might not want to leave.

Your cat may just want to be an outside cat.. Try sealing up all access points, so she is unable to get outside. And if you have a door open for more than a sec and she gets near it. Make a loud noice, spray her with water or what not. Try and discourage her want to go outside. As for the other one, i don't think there is anything you can do. If she misses the cat, then she misses her, its not like you can really do anything. Just give her extra love and attention when the first cat gets outside.
Good luck!

Did you not notice the cat behind the water heater??? Poor kitty. It probably starved.

When you go near a door and your cat is near you, try shaking a plastic grocery bag at it. That noise usually makes my cats run like crazy!

in the journey that your cats stay killed, you will desire to save them interior. The maximum secure place for a cat to be is interior. in case you want to evaluate outdoors in any respect, you will desire to evaluate some components, like the aptitude threat of being attacked by wild animals or roaming canine or being hit by a automobile. Cats would desire to fully be interior at evening - no exceptions - it incredibly is while the hazards are maximum. outdoors cats would desire to have all their pictures present day and would constantly be spayed and neutered. take a glance at what occurred on your different cat intently and the hazards the place you reside previously letting your kitten pass outdoors. the two-year lifespan referred to above isn't precise for cats that are owned - it applies to feral cats that have not got proprietors, that are at lots larger threat of starvation, affliction or predation. yet there is not any doubt that cats that stay outdoors section time have greater detrimental aspects, fairly if out at evening. i could never pass away a cat out at evening.
