Peter!?!? says don't take too much showers, but you can shower all you want. Dandruff is basically the result of your scalp drying out. So after shampooing and conditioning, make sure not to blow dry all the way down to your scalp, let the roots of your hair dry naturally. Also make sure you are hydrated. Drinking enough water each day actually prevents dry skin all over your body.

Actually dandruff is a fungal problem of the scalp. The scales left out of the fungal formation is the resultant dandruff. The sultry or cold weather conditions are more congenial to the dandruff formation. Sometimes, the problem is so high, it is really makes one awkward to be in crowd, with lot of dandruff visible on the hair. The best solution, besides suggested medical therapies, would be to cleanse/ rinse smoothly but thoroughly the scalp and hair with dicoction of ritha fruit made in hot water twice in a week together with oiling of hair the same day. All other medicines or therapies both known and unknown to english medicine are momentary and gives no satisfactory solution to the problem. One can have the hair rinsed in lemon juice also atleast three hours before going for a wash with ritha dicoction. The acidic nature of lemon juice and bitterness of the ritha juice both will give good and long lasting relief to the sufferer of dandruff.

It depends on the cause of the problem.
True dandruff is caused by a fungal infection of the scalp. For this problem the best thing to do is to use medication that will kill the fungus. You can see a dermatologist.
Most people with flakes just have dry scalp. You can often solve this problem simply by washing your hair less frequently, like going to every other day instead of every day. For the first week or so your hair will be greasy, but then your skin will get used to it and you won't be greasy anymore, and your scalp won't be as dry and flaky.
