There are over 200 types of cancer all complicated by location, grade, and stage of the tumors. Early stages of cancer do not necessarily hurt because the tumors are very small. As the tumor grows larger it begins to invade and push into the tissue of an organ. Sometimes the tumor as it grows will begin to displace or move organs aside and compress them. The squeezing of an organ or the invasion of tumor into normal tissue can start to be painful . . constant ache with no relief . . or pain can also result from compression of the heart or lungs or other major organs. Tumors can press on nerves. The tumors take over the inside of the body as it grows . . large tumors also 'seed' by sending out microscopic cells into the blood stream. What that means is that those cells can start new tumors in locations far away from the original. It can grow in the liver, lungs, brain, or bones depending on where it lands. Those growths can create even more physical problems.

People can also feel solid tumors, especially ones that grow large enough . . you can push on the area and feel a solid object where it should not be . . many times more than one. Eventually if left untreated or from progession of disease the tumors can break through the skin and spread tumors across the body. This is advanced disease and many people never see this because these patients are hidden from the public eye.

So, the answer is yes . . at some point, if left untreated . . people will feel cancer either the tumors or the result of the damage created by the tumors.

The love of my life died in 2001 from lung cancer. It had spread to the bone. It was a very painful and hideous end to the life of a wonderful man. It didn't have to be as excruciating,,,but the physicians in this country [usa] often refuse to prescribe adequate pain medication, even when it is obviously called for. I was told he might become addicted. The man was dying. It should have left me speechless... it didn't. We got on the hospice program shortly after that [wonderful program, by the way] and were able to get the end care he needed so badly.

Yes, to answer your question, cancer is painful. It may not start out that way, but it certainly ends there.

When cancer first begins to grow, the patient may not be aware of it. But, as it grows into a lump, the effected area begins to feel a warming sensation, much like when you have an infection. Eventually, the effected area becomes very painful as the cancer begins to eat away at the body.

My Husband has had 3 cancers. He didn't feel pain with his Prostate cancer, he did with his throat cancer and now he has lung cancer in both lungs. He isn't feeling any pain yet but he will as it progresses. My grandfather and Cousin had Pancreatic cancer they felt pain at the end. Some may not feel any pain, but I haven't seen anyone yet.

I'm pretty sure it hurts for everyone who's dying from it. But even if you aren't going to die you still need to get chemo or surgery or radiation or whatever. So in the end it will hurt SOME.

it's bad pain, so bad the person needs morphine (a strong pain reliever), and the cancer makes your insides unable to function so you get super thin then pass.
