I have a pimple, and I heard toothpaste works wonders...but I'm a little skeptical. Kind of worried, will it hurt/burn? And does it actually work?

Thanks everyone for the answers! Decided not to do it, probable not worth the chance if something does go wrong... Will do a more safer way, thanks =]

It only works a little bit. The toothpaste acts like a bonding agent and it shrinks the pimple. However it does sting at first, and you do smell like toothpaste. It's rather hard to take of too once it hardens. It's not worth it though. You also have to have a certain type of toothpaste. After you do it a few times it stops working and it makes the skin tight and rough. I would suggest using the 24 pimple control medicine for like clean & clear or clearsil. They come in a tiny like 1 oz bottle. Kind of looks like a lip gloss. You use it for spot treatment and over night your pimple can be reduced by 60-100% in size.

Toothpaste will dry up the pimple, making it less noticeable, and eventually clearing it up in a day or two. Make sure you use the paste kind, not a gel. It shouldn't hurt or burn at all, and yes, it does work. It's always worked for me and all my friends. Since it will only dry the pimple rather than making it disappear, make sure you use an oil-free moisturizer the next morning. Remember that the toothpaste method only really works for spot treatments, and you shouldn't replace your normal skincare regimen with using toothpaste.

Oh, and make sure you do it right before you go to bed, that way you don't look stupid walking around with toothpaste on your face. =]

I would try avoiding things like that just use face wash or acne treatment don't just clean you face with soap it dries your skin out and you lose some oils that keep you skin healthy don't dry your skin out and use toothpaste It might have been mere coincidence that those peoples pimples went away after they used toothpaste or it could be a mith I would consult a dermalogist

You should use toothpaste not gel. Dab it only on the pimple using very little or it will burn your skin. It drys it up. Use over night and don't go over board or use more than two nights or else you will have a burn and it will get worse.

Toothpaste dries out the zit. It works for some people and not others. It works for me, but not my best friend. You need to be careful in where you apply it as it is very drying, and if you get it around the zit, it goes flaky and disgusting. You only need the tiniest bit. I'd give it a go, it won't hurt if it doesn't work. It's not going to cause any permanent damage to your skin.

It just dries all the oil out of it...i would suggest using a face mask, instead. You just want to draw the oils out of it so that the pimple will dry up and go away.

Yes, I have been doing that for years. It helps dry it out. It might burn for a second but no big deal.
