The bible does not say that the 'fruit of knowledge' was an apple.

Paintings through the years have often portrayed it as an apple or a pear BUT the bible does not say that it is so. As far as we know it was a plum, a date, a passion fruit or something that only grew in the garden of eden and will never be discovered by mankind.

Ambika! It will be helpful if you read the bible at least once before asking some bible related question! Apples are not being mention in the bible as the fruit that Adam and Eve ate! It was the forbidden fruit! Most likely to be the fig and not apple that would have been the forbidden fruit! I don't see how it would be a sin for a Catholic to eat apples!

Its not the act of eating the unnamed fruit in the garden but the act of ignoring Gods word which is the sin. It is not what you eat but what you believe. The world apple is never used in the text with Adam and Eve. The story could of used any thing like don't pick a rose. The point is to trust in God and allow His help, and not to let outside influences seduce you into doing things that are wrong according to Gods word.

First of all, Adam and Eve ate fruit from a tree called "The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil". There is no reason to believe that this fruit was an apple.

Secondly, normally, eating fruit of any kind is not sinful. The reason it was a transgression for Adam and Even to eat fruit at that time was because they had been commanded by God not to eat that fruit. There is no commandment that says, "Don't eat apples."

As per Bible and what I have heard God had told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of the Garden. He did not say apple. This one.

Secondly at hat time Catholicism was not formed, so you can not relate the sermon given to Adam and Eve for Catholics. God has forgiven the sinners Adam and Eve themselves. So anyone can eat apple and it is not a sin at all.-

My Thoughts! I believe Catholics eat apples for the same reasons most others do. They taste good, essential vitamins and stuff like that. I must agree with the many statements of others... it was a "fruit" (maybe or maybe not) maybe nothing was consumed at all. It may have been the mere acceptance of a thought or way of thinking.. a 'buying into" regardless... they did the big no-no and it caused a lot of trou-ble and God said you gotta go-go... then Jesus came and made a way back yo!... you gotta accept it though...... In the meantime have an ap - ple. Created by God and tastee too!

There is no mention in Genesis what the forbidden fruit was. I don't
know why everyone assumes it was an apple. God created apples to
be eaten not rejected.

The apple is just used to symbolize the fruit. Nobody knows what the actual fruit looked like.
