I really need some help. I need to know who I would contact about a 7 year old that is being "home schooled". Her parents are divorced and she says her older sister teaches her. (older sister is 9). This little girl does not even know her birthday.
Let me be clear that I have NO problems with kids that are home schooled. I just know these 2 little girls are not being taught.
Can you locate a number that I contact to report this? They live part of the time in KY (with their Dad) and part of the time in IN (with their Mom).

I would take a phone #, e-mail address, physical address, or anything!
I will also have to do this in a way that they will not find out that I am the one reporting them. (would cause major family problems)

Hey there ...

Well, in California we have something called Child Protective Services (CPS for short). I am a teacher and we call them whenever we feel a child is being neglected or abused. They are required by law to investigate the situation and they are not allowed to tell the persons being investigated who reported them. This way it keeps the informer safe.

Not sure if they're called the same thing in KY or IN ... perhaps they are nationwide. But if not you can call City Hall, a local school district, or the police department and ask them where you can report that a child is being neglected. It is against the law to keep a child out of school unless they are registered in an "approved" home schooling program. If this girl is being "taught" by her 9 year old sister ... that is definitely neglect!

I applaud your willingness to help these young girls ... sounds like you may be the one person they can count on at all. Take care and good luck with this! =)

Home schooled children are supposed to take scheduled tests at a location outside of the home, here in the state where I live. I do not know the requirements for KY or IN, but you should be able to contact child protective services ( or what ever it is called in your area) You may need to call agencies in both states, as she resides in both. and give a confidential report regarding your concerns. When you make your report, be sure to give them detailed information and names and numbers of others who would be able to corroberate your concerns. Good Luck and thank you for looking out for this little one, too often people just turn their backs on them.

Call social services for the counties in which they preside. You can do this anonymously.
