Did not set the sleep or stanby settings. Just went black. The set is a Sony Trinitron model KV-35V65.

In the Sony sets, the flashing standby lamp means there is a problem with start-up. Usually a failed horizontal output transistor is shorted, possibly a bad flyback transformer. I have also seen the +9 volt supply fail and cause this symptom. The +9 volt supply runs the video circuits, and if the supply is down, the set will not start up.

The worst (and most common) scenario is the CRT is bad, this will cause the screen voltage to go down (from +200 volts) and cause the set to shut down, and not start-up correctly.

Unless you are trained in how to work with high voltages, and exposed AC line voltages, I would not suggest you try to open this set up for yourself. Have a qualified technician do that. The CRT has 30,000 volts running to it, and the chassis is tied straight to one side of the AC line. You can get a nice shock from that.

Sony Tv On Standby

Have you changed the freeview box? I have never heard of bush, and not sure of the reliability of sharp, but Sony trinitron? I have a Sony Trinitron CRT which I have had for 10 years now, still good. Before doing another exchange (what would the store clerks think of you), test the TV by plugging in another source that you know is good. Try a DVD player, video console or camcorder. You could also try moving the TV to another location for better reception. Either that or free isn't really free. Subscribe to cable. Hope this helps.

leave the TV on...........unplug it with the power on. let it sit for 5 mins. unplug all audio/video rca jacks, and cable source. and first 3 screws un plug tv stand strap. Take the back off (6 more screws) Look for the little metal box at the end closest to you on the circuit board that plugs into the front buttons. On the back of the box there is 2 screws vertically from each other they should be covered with dust pretty bad. wipe the dust from around the screws. wouldnt hurt to clean it up a bit but dont get carried away just blow the dust off that you can with your mouth and wipe the dust off the base. The bottom screw should say picture. let all the dust settle, hell take a well deserved break! now plug The tv in again. re-attach cable. Turn it on and give it 5 mins to warm up. slowly turn the bottom (picture) screw to the right verrry slowly and you should see the picture come back. now turn it down slowly untill the picture drops again. bring it just back up again and give it just a little extra. but not too much as it will wear the crt faster. youll see............ now pull the cord out of the wall again. reassemble. plug in. watch for 1 min. now turn off again. while its off press on the remote ---channel button-----5-------volume down-----Power-- then after it comes on ----8--------enter. Hope this helped
