my cat has been missing for 5 days now. My mother found a cat along side the road that she thought was it, but she said it was decomposing. alot of the skin was gone and the fur was falling off, and there were maggots. Today she showed me some of the fur when I got home, and it didn't look like my cats fur, too gray. I was wondering if it was possible for it to decay that quickly. It would have been about 3.5 days after it went missing.

Also my neighbor has had a cat missing for about 2 weeks, and it had dark fur too. This is mainly why I'm thinking it might not be my cat. We just moved, and my cat never gets close to the road.

It varies. In the winter, Decomp can take much longer. If it is hot and humid, decomp is a lot faster. It could be the cat in that time span, but the coloring of the fur would be the same as it was alive.

I lifted a dead skunk off the road before it could be crushed, and put it into the woods. This was in summer. The decomposition in 5 days wasn't very far so this may have been a different cat, since both animals are about the same size. The bones were completely cleaned off in one month Fur won't change color so it may not have been yours.

If it rained heavy and the temperatures were up in the 90's, then yes, those two factors do help make things move faster. I'd go by the fur color though, and hope yours will come home ok.

My cat had been missing for only 2 days before I found her and when I did her head was the only thing that was decomposed. It was Col outside so that could have had a lot to do with the decomposing process.

The hair will not change color during decomposition. It can decompose extremely quickly with heat and moisture. This is the fuel for bacteria in the gut and maggots are born in 1 day and in three could have a small cat almost halfway eaten.

confident call the heath branch or animal administration. you're able to do this because of fact those cats may well be dying for a reason and it could get investigated. additionally they're going to eliminate the carcass for you. yet once you do no longer it is going to take a pair of weeks. yet i think of it may be extra suited to work out how the animal died.
