I was wanting to take a trip to New York City in March. My friends and I were wanting to know different ways getting around the city without the expensive taxi ride. Can somebody give me different ways of transportation in the city and maybe estimate cost.

subway it's $2 to ride or $7 for a one day unlimited metrocard or $24 for a weekly unlimited metrocard.

Manhattan is compact. Every building is built straight up. Thus Manhattan is the ideal city to walk around. Getting from the east side to the west side is not too tough. And going from Times Square to Greenwich Village is a good walk, but it's doable, and many do it. You really get to see the city upclose when you walk inside of taking the subway.

Well the best thing to do is get a 7 day metro fun pass, it lets you take the subway and bus as many times as you want for 7 days and it is only $24. Other than that just walk everywhere, make sure you bring good shoes!

Just use the MTA subway and buses. They have an all day pass for about $10 that is valid for unlimited use anywhere on basic service routes. Avoid cabs unless you plan on spending big bucks! The transit system is quite safe and much faster than cabs.

buses run all over the city and you ask for transfers (if you are going uptown or downtown a transfer allows you to get on a cross town for nothing (and vice versa)

also subways all over the city (you just transfer underground)

both have maps and guides to tell you where they're going for each line

have a blast - I always do - always lived just east of nyc and but lived & worked in the city for a few years as well
