Most Mormons I know aren't having the big families that they used to. It's getting too hard to afford a large family anymore. And that's just for basics.

The whole children thing is a big misconception. Even where I live, which is pretty much Mormonville, there are very few families that have more then 2-3 kids. Some have more, some have less.

The thing about us that most people don't understand is that when a decision is made to have kids, we make sure those kids are coming into a home with a mother and a father. We teach our children, we provide for them, we teach them morals and values and they are raised- for the most part- as productive, responsible members of society.

Since we don't believe in sex before marriage, or marriage with anyone but our spouses, the chances of having illegitimate children are pretty low. Also, we believe that a man takes care of his family. Yes, a lot of the women in the church work too, but for those of us who are lucky enough, can stay home with the kids. We believe it is both the mom's and dad's responsibility to raise the children, and it's a joint effort. Our families are pretty close, and it shows.

There is less crime committed by LDS kids then any other denomination. I think this has to do with the way we raise our kids. They understand the difference between right and wrong. They are taught that from a very young age.

I'm posting a link to what we call "The Proclamation on the Family" that was put out by the leaders of our church. This will explain part of what we believe about families.

Actually, our church is growing pretty fast. But there are more children born then join the church. Just look at all the kids born outside of the US. Also, look at the conditions they are born into, and hwo they are cared for.

In my experience, two reasons:
1) Mormons in America that I have known only have 2-3 children. They are, in essence, assimilated into this culture.
2) People from other cultures in America that I have known have many more children. I knew an Anglo fundamentalist Christian with 13 children, Hmong families with 7-10 children, and Hispanic, East Indian, and African-American families with 4-6 children. So, the Mormons are growing at the same amount as one might expect.

This is my opinion only, so I can't back it up with facts. First off, I am not a Mormon or Latter Day Saint, I am a Christian. I believe your answer is that even though the Mormons may have many children, they do their best to provide for, nurture, and teach their children what's right and wrong. I can not say that for any country in Africa, Europe, South America, and even Asia. They (in general) procreate with very little responsibility to the upbringing of their children and often have sex without protection. It's a crying shame that we are often blamed for the ways of everyday life in foreign countries, when the responsibility to improve should be on their own governments and people. I have said my peace, and I rest my case. Thank you for your question. It helped me to vent.

The LDS population is growing faster than the American population as a whole.

For example, Utah, which has a LDS majority, has the highest birthrate of any state in the USA.

Um, last I checked, Mormons have as many children as they want, from none to many. The rest of the world is the same way. Mormons are human too. We make decisions just like everyone else. I have one. How many do you have?:)

For one, lots of Mormons are becoming disillusioned and leaving the LDS church.

The case of Warren Jeffs, the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart and research done at BYU which is uncovering evidence that the Book of Mormon is not true is all taking its toll.

Not everyone born into a Mormon family chooses to remain a Mormon.

Therefore that information has no basis at all. They are simply rumors and should be taken seriously by anyone.
