Just wondering.....

How did you potty train you child?

What gender?

How old were they?

How long did it take before they were trained?

I ask because my son is 2.5 and today I started potty training (he has been familier with potty since 1.5) He is really into the disney cars movie so I made him a cars potty chart, bought him the cars stickers for rewards, decorated his potty seat with cars, and bought him the cars underwear (along with a couple other things) I put him on the potty every 1/2 hour (more frequent if he did go when I put him on) He did awsome I just don't know how to get him to tell me he has to go or will it just come with time? I put him in the cool alert pull ups overnight, we'll see how that goes.
Just wanted to see how other people did things

My friend told me about The Potty Stool. http://www.thepottystool.com I was skeptical the stool would make a difference but I never would have guessed how well it works!

I think it really help boys to pee standing so that they can see what is happening and connect the sensations. The Potty Stool lets boys do this with ease and accuracy. I realized later that my kids really wanted to imitate what they saw adults doing and they were very determined to mimic correct toilet use.

This really is the greatest thing to happen to potty training. I like that I don't have to use or clean a floor potty and I love that my kids are safe and never have to touch the toilet with their hands! My kids just get right up to the toilet on their own.

The best part is that kids use it for years. Hope this helps you.

I have five children, and each one was different as far as how long they took, my two girls were easier, they were both trained within a week, one was 2.5 when we started and one was 2 exactly. My boys took a little longer. But, I really didn't use training diapers/pull ups with any of them except for nap time and when we were in the car for long hours. I would start by putting them on the potty like your doing, but then I would let them wet their panties/underpants and them feel it see it's wet and yucky and explain that they needed to pee the wet stuff into the potty, than I would get them a dry, clean pair of underclothes and let them feel them nd see they are dry, they want to keep them dry so there not yucky. After about three or four times of this they usually start to get the idea. Also, another great thing I do that seems to work is washing their hands after they go potty. This sounds silly, but little one LOVE to wash their hands, especially with that foam soap. With my kids I made it a treat to let them wash their hands because they went potty. It is incredible how this works, I don't however, let them wash their hands if they didn't go potty. This will save you that extra money from buying stickers or candy, while teaching your child good hygiene. Also, you won't have to break them of the other rewards that will eventually have to go away. Good luck.

your off to a good start but expect accidents. dont worry about night time. it will come much later on its own when his body is ready

i potty trained my son i started 2 months after he turned two and it took all the way until 3 and a half he wasnt ready and fought me.

what i found that worked was underwear. save pull ups when out for naps and bedtimes take him once and hour every hour and have him sit there for 5 minutews if he goes praise him if not tell him we will try again in a few minutes which would be about 20 minutes

mr. cool
you're doing a perfect job
my son loves cars too...that's nice what you did for the extra motivation...stickers and such
he'll just figure it out
ohh, i gots to go potty he'll say quite soon
it might take a bit longer to keep him dry overnight but that depend on the kid
my boy got it from the get-go...some take a lil longer...my neighbor's kid still wears pull ups at night and she's 9 so every kid is different :)
Cool alerts were a waste of money for us
I don't think he noticed the difference
good like dear :)

Everything you did is right! After a while things will just click, and he will get it.
