There is young buddy of mine that's going to be going off to college this fall and I would like to get him a gift that is going to keep him inspired and especially help him to grow into a meaningful, soul saving relationship with Christ. Any suggestions?

Give him something to remind himself who he is now and to measure his progress as it comes along the way.

Why not a really nice date planner with a journal and bible scriptures for daily devotion. A bible with a study guide is an even better idea, because he can look back on his experience to see (in his own handwriting) if he is growing up or digressing. The bible is our road map through life, right?

Have his name engraved to add a personal touch with a handwritten prayer from you and a picture of yourself included. We all need reminding that we are in someones thoughts and prayers. And money is always the icing on the cake.

If I were you I'd get your buddy something related to his church. A bible or two, one for his room and another for his car, maybe some books so he can study more about his church. Ask his church's priest/deacon/minister, whatever he has there if he has any ideas on what you can get for you buddy. I'm sure he would be glad to help you out.

It seems important to you that these be religion related, so I'll try to stick to that....

*Invite several of your friends, that share your faith, to join you and the graduate for dinner or something. During the dinner, you could discuss how religion has helped you, and what brings you faith in it.

*Offer a youth Bible to the boy. At this time in his life, there are a lot of issues--many of which covered by the Bible, however, it is much easier for young people to connect with a youth version.

*You might consider contacting some of the graduate's family, or members of his church, to ask them about the young man's childhood days, in terms of religion, or school. Then, gather photos of him, and create a slideshow DVD with a quote as a companion to each picture--have Christian music playing through the whole thing.

*Offer him a "coupon/certificate" to join you for church any time. Afterward, the two of your could always go out for coffee, or lunch, and discuss his schooling and religious faith. This would be a great way to convey to him that you care for him, and would like to help him be successful, and follow his beliefs.

*You might have a special, well-used Bible, or some other object, that is from your childhood or college years. If you were willing to part with this, you could offer it to him; it may help the two of you to connect and develop a good relationship.

*It would, of course, take a lot of time--but you might pick ten controversial topics in the world, many of which he'll face in college, and address them in a letter or mini-book of sorts. Describe how you feel about them, and the religious aspects--as well as any hopes you may have for him. (Such as; underage alchohol consumption; "I hope you will be strong, and not accept invitations to drink...." offer advice, and reasons why, etc....)

*You might write a short poem, about your hopes for the grad. You could have it framed, or placed in a photo album; somewhere that it won't be damaged; he'll remember this well, in my opinion.

*Pick ten or so Bible verses you feel would be most helpful to him during college, and type them up; offering your views on it, and a "real world" translation; something he'll understand easily. This, too, could be framed or saved in some fashion.

*You might pick a collection of certain songs, and DL them--then, burn the songs to a single CD, and write up the reasoning behind each choice--make the songs motivating, uplifting--samples from Christian bands are a good way to do this.

*Offer him your "top secret advice box." Give him a small box, and fill it with post-its of advice, quotes, anything--just things that he might enjoy hearing; meaningful tidbits. If you'd like, you could continue to add to the box each year of his college career.

*Depending on how far away his college is from you, you could always offer to attend church with him there for the first month or so. In a new place, he may have a difficult time going to a new church alone. Having someone there with him may be helpful and encouraging.

*Pick the book that has had the greatest influence on you (religiously/morally), excluding the Bible, and give him a copy. In addition, you could offer to read through it with him; you each read a few chapters, and then gather for coffee or something to discuss it.

I hope this helps--I tried to keep them religion-based. :)

A wooden cross necklace to wear as a constant reminder of the sacrifice. It's pretty much his God given right to choose God or not to, I wouldn't try to force him...get him a computer, that would be cool, or pay for his meal plan for a year or maybe his books...that would benefit him more concerning your friendship. But seriously dont push God on him, you must let him come to God if he so chooses

I always gave embroiders throws to ppl when they graduated. You can get all kinds of "themes". I'm sure there are Christians ones that you could get a verse embroidered or something.
