We are tossing around the idea of getting married at the science center. The reception would be outdoors on the patio or indoors in the big lobby if the weather is bad. Usual food, dancing, music. They only allow beer and wine. The ceremony would take place in the planetarium, candlelit with either the stars or a stormy sky above us.

My HTB is worried that people will think a wedding ceremony in a planetarium is odd......

Are you talking about a major Science Center, like the one in Cleveland? It's large and right by the water and there are several other things to do nearby, like the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, great dining, etc. If so, that would be cool.

But if it's a small town average science center, it might be odd, or unappealing to SOME guests... but if it's what you like, then those who find it odd don't have to come, right? ;-)

I think that it sounds very unique!! Remember it is your special day and that is all that matters.I have been to several weddings held in buildings & they were very glamorous. I think the planetarium idea sounds especially romantic. Decide on your location soon...as you will find often wedding sites are booked months ahead. The only thing you should take into consideration is your budget...do they provide chairs for the ceremony or do you have to rent them? Same goes for tables & chairs for the reception. Also, do you have to bring in a caterer or do they make food on site? All these things add up & vary greatly by location. I think you could overcome the geeky science bldg. aspect by wording your invitation along the lines of "A ceremony under the stars" etc. If you had assigned seating you could could name each table after a planet....might be corny but cute! I attended a wedding last year & the groom had a star named after the bride & presented her with the official papers at the wedding. Anyway, hope this helps & good luck!!

Go for it!!!! I used to live in Chicago, and the planetarium is so cool-I would say this location would be awesome for the two of you. I´m not that into the stars-I can barely find the big dipper, but I think the location sounds absolutely awesome.

Oh, no smoking allowed at your reception-didn´t you just have surgery? You shouldn´t be around smoke! Let people go to the parking lot-I know those poor addicted people go crazy if the don´t light up.

Tschüs!

Well that is kind of odd... but, you know what it's your guy's wedding who cares about what people think right...? That's between you and that one special person that youre going to live with right...? I mean go for it this is like new... Wow you guys are sure very creative don't worry it's just strange at first but, who knows you guys might make a trend so by all means go for it... There were people who were married in a hotel too, so yeah if that's what you want then go for it...

Not doing something that you have planned for a quite a long time there's nothing more but, a bit of regret later on... So go for it... Let nothing stop you guys from achiveing your dreams if this was you guys want then go right ahead this is your big day so dream and dream some more...
God bless you and have fun...
And be safe okay...?

Sounds like fun. People would remember it. I went to a reception at the local planetarium once.

No, getting married while parachuting from a plane is odd. Getting married in the ocean in full scuba gear is odd. Getting married in a planetarium is downright normal. :) Enjoy!

I think it would be really neat -- I just hope you can set it up so that people can see you guys -- it's very obnoxious when the setting of the wedding ceremony excludes the guests. Most of them actually want to feel a part of things

Anyone who doesn't think that is cool probably is from the "jock" or "popular" crowd and doesn't know what a planetarium is.

That wouldn't be weird. That would be COOL! That is one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. I would be talking about your wedding for years.
