I have to have a gastroscopy test done, to find out if my esophagus is functioning properly, and to see what is causing my food to become temporarily stuck, or slow moving. What should I expect during this procedure? Painful?

Have you had this done? Please give me your thoughts and opinions! Thanks a bunch!

I've had it done and they gave me a sedative that basically kept me from remembering anything that happened. It was as if I went to sleep and woke up again, but actually was still conscious when they were doing it. No pain or discomfort at all. It was a breeze.

I agree with the 2 above!! I had it done at it was nothing at all.The sedative they give you will have you in a sleep/relaxed state and you wont really remember a thing. They stick the scope into your throat (remember, you are not awake really to notice this procedure),and they check on their moniter/screen what the promblem may be.I worried like crazy before i had it done, and i worried for nothing! You will do fine.

Hi. Yes I have and I agree with answer 1. They have to suppress the gag reflex.
