When I fly in my dreams it never seems very high. It will only be maybe a foot above ground.
The other question is sometimes when dreaming I realize it and close my eyes in the dream. When I open them Im open them in real life and Im awake.

Dreams of flight are fun, most of the other Answers are right on this, it usually means you feel a sense of freedom or relief. For some folks--not saying you, just for some--dreams of either flying or swimming can carry a sexual meaning besides the one of freedom or liberation. But for most folks, flying in a dream is usually a sense of liberation.

Do you have control over where you fly? You mentioned only being a foot or so above ground....this is how it starts usually, but you will gain more altitude as you have more flying dreams, if you want to. But I digress...point is, do you have control, or are you blown around by the winds? Being blown around might be a sign of struggle with your freedom or with those who might want to curtail it.

And how do your feet move when you fly? Do you generally do a climbing motion, like treading water? Or is it more like a roller-skating or roller-blading motion? Or is it more like a skiing motion (with both feet moving at once, the same way, side to side like a downhill skiier?)? Part of this might have to do with your body position on the bed, where your feet and legs are as you sleep, but....

In general, the treading-water motion rather means, in my experience, that you're having some difficulty with maintaining the feeling of flight....that you're trying to walk or climb and *this* happens instead. The other two would mean you're more confident with this thing.

And...as for lucid dreaming. ^_^ I've done a fair bit of that too. So far it sounds like what you've done is, your aware, thinking mind has found a way to "wake up" and be aware in dream....and then you found the "killswitch" in your dream state with the closing/opening of your eyes. Everyone has a killswitch that can be used to *end the dream* and wake up *right Now*. Mine is, when I am aware I am dreaming, I simply tell myself in a firm, loud voice to *wake up*, and I do.

Just don't be shocked if you feel like crap and want to go back to sleep once you wake up. Interrupting a dream state doesn't exactly help your mind get its rest and do its internal housekeeping, you know? ^_^

But yeah....for future reference, you may want to write down and meditate on something that in your mind, might be a *clear sign* that you're asleep and dreaming. I have several, but a good one for me is when I try to read things and they're either mis-spelled horribly, or I mis-read them totally. That is one *really common* sign, as I rarely have trouble reading and writing when I am awake. So find a clear sign *for you* that tells you, "Ok, this is a dream."

And once you've done that....instead of waking up right away, try asserting more control over yourself in dream. Do the things you'd normally do, or try going other places. That's the easy stuff. As you practice, you'll have some control over the dream environment itself, but start small. Yes, this is your own personal Matrix, but remember, you are asleep and supposed to be resting. Keep this simple and fun....if you're working, you are trying too hard.

And remember....your killswitch will wake you up at any time, so you will be safe regardless of what's "happening" dreamside. ^_^ I've had to use that one myself recently on some really creepy and rather sucky (as in non-fun, non-interesting) dreams as of late.

I hope this helps.....take care and have fun. ^_^

I've only had a few lucid dreams(where you realize you're dreaming). The best part of those is to control them. It's incredibly freeing and exciting. No consequences and you can play with your environment. Be careful though becase most of the time if you think of something in the dream, it happens. Like for me I would always be walking somewhere familiar and worry about tripping and then I would trip and wake up. Really try to control them, it's great fun. I wish I could do it more.

Here's a line from my Dream Dictionary, which is listed in my sources, about flying: "The aspect of flying connects with the gaining of independance and the expression of one's potential. They portray the overcoming of obstacles, the gravity of life or the things that pull down one's enthusiasm. They also express the dealing with other internal influences that hold us down, such as self-doubt, anxiety and depression. The negative aspect that can come from flying is how we may flee from internal trauma or fear by disassociating feeling and mind from reality."
When I read the descriptions from this dictionary, I go with my gut on the meaning of my dream.

Flying during dreams - a kind of astral projection - your mind is allowing you to "project" or see yourself, in this case flying.

Realizing you are dreaming is called lucid dreaming, or, feeling like you are awake during a dream.

You being lifeless symbolizes which you fairly want to pass away at the back of all your concerns. Flying symbolizes which you conquer some impediment. in the journey that your aunt is lifeless, and is alive on your dream, it ability which you carry directly to element of the previous, and you will desire to permit pass of the previous. i'm hoping this enables your attitude.

Flying
To dream that you are flying, signifies a sense of freedom where you had initially felt restricted and limited.

To dream that you are flying with black wings, signifies bitter disappointments.
