Hi everyone,
I'm a 29/m from Long Island who has not had any luck in the dating world. Sometimes I think the fact that I stutter really turns off women. But three months ago one of my friends said something interesting-he said I am an old-fashioned guy, and maybe I am just in the wrong type of social city. I believe in the little things-opening doors, treating their parents with respect and calling them "Mr." or "Mrs.," making sure the young woman is home when I promise she will be. New York has so many women, but to be honest, I seem to find them very much into material things and just not what I'm looking for-I find they tend to gravitate toward the guys who make more money but focus more time staring at their bodies. I've always believed southern women, particularly from regions like Atlanta and so on are a different breed. I actually went to Atlanta for a convention last month and loved the city and the way of life. I would welcome any comments-are Southern women different?

Yes, I live right here in the South. They are, especailly with their Southern Slag. We don't have alot of cities like New York so we really don't know what that life is like. I've never called down a taxi in my life. We have alot of green plains, country fields, and wide open grasslands so you take a nice relaxing drive when you want. I also agree on the fact that Southern Women don't have alot of Gucci or Prada. If they do, its fake, or they bought off the street from somebody. Southern Women are also not for there nice body frames and not being to skinny

Of course we southern girls are different. My parents raised me to respect and expect to be respected. It's all about courtesy if you want to make a good impression. I'm more likely to remember and try to talk to a guy that doesn't have a superiority complex. You should see if you can get a transfer somewhere in the south, but try to keep somewhere near civilization because most towns are few and far between.

Yes, I live right outside of a New Orleans. I love the South! It's gorgeous! Very green :) I'm not saying southern girls aren't materialistic, but NYC is one of the biggest fashion capitals of the world, so many of the girls are going to be materialistic.
NYC is a nice place. I just didn't meet very nice people when I went.

I think we are. We don't have a lot of prada or gucci around here! lol Here it is pretty laid back and the women are more down to earth. While there are still stuck up snobs and materialistic women here, there are a lot less than what you will find anywhere else. Southern hospitality is IN THE SOUTH! lol and it has stuck around here more because this is where it originated!

Southern women tend to respect their men more and genuinely appreciate those great little things. In the hustle and bustle and city life those things lose priority and relationships are often more than superficial. I would definitely give it a shot.

I'm not just from the south. Most woman from the south refer to ourselves as Southern Bells. Southern woman learn to respect the smaller things in life. We are more about family down here. Most of us as southern woman, have also learn to handle everything for ourselves. I can tell you.....we do not talk good at all. But that is part of our charm.

Culturally- yes. And you might have more success at finding someone "Special" down there than out on the (a-hem) more "Sophisticated" Island. But BE forewarned;- women want pretty much the SAME THING wherever they live. -So don't be taken in by their "southern charm"...-or the "hole" you could end up in- might be anything BUT "old fashion..." :)
