and why is the Minute (can also be pronounced "my-noot," meaning small) Hand the largest?

Because the minute hand counts out the seconds, just as the hour hand counts out the hours and the minute hand counts of the minutes.

FIRST HAND, HOURS. SECOND HAND, MINUTES. THIRD HAND, SECONDS. ALL THREE HANDS ARE USUALLY DIFFERENT SIZES,WITH THE HOUR HAND BEING THE SMALLEST.
