And do Islamic terrorists really represent that much of a threat to us in ‘Fortress America’?

I would say no. In modern society, events, such as rape, murder, genocide, etc. are widely broad casted and more exposed, so people are more aware. Its not that these things didn't happen, its just that we now know about them.

Besides, compare our time to the 1920's (prohibition = people still drinking and organized crime). People though morals were going down the tubes when women's rights were increased. Honestly, what is so immoral about today's world? Abortion? In Roman times, people would practice infanticide and leave babies they didn't want on the hills to die of exposure (common practice). Divorce? Homosexuality? (which has existed since the dawn of man)

Bonus, 2 questions in one ! I'll just tackle the title question.

There is more than enough moral depravity to go around. But I doubt if the level of moral depravity is any worse today than it was at any other time in history. Generally Christians that make a big show of pointing out the moral depravity of others have some sort of agenda. Jesus' way of dealing with moral depravity and sin was to offer salvation rather point fingers at people.

May I suggest that you edit your question to say, "...do fundamentalist Islamic terrorists...?" Few Muslims are terrorists, most of them are people with children, homes, jobs, education, bank accounts, cars, family events, traditions. Just like...dare I say it...many Christians. And many atheists like me. As for a society's being 'morally depraved,' it's a decade-thing. When I was a wee boy down in backward Georgia it was heard how Christian things had been in the previous decade, and in the next decade it was heard how Christian and moral things had been in the previous decade. So it goes. We have a corrupt administration in the White House but those unfortunates will be out of here in January '09.

There's a gaping hole in the skyline of New York City, which came about from TWO separate tries!

And, by the WAY, Islam thinks the west is even MORE DEPRAVED than do Christians.

Their leaders catagorized Australian girls as PIECES OF MEAT ASKING TO BE RAPED

Not even a hard core Christian Fundie goes that far with the average girl on the street!

Yes it is, but no we don't like to make it out as such. And yes the Islamic terrorists are a significant threat to life as we know it here in the US.

no way ....

I would love to blame it on someone else ... but; let us look at some facts.

Every 16 seconds - there is an abortion ... count them on your fingers ....

Then tell me how many were lost in the twin towers ... tell me how many have been lost in the last 10 months in America by terrorists ... hmmmmm

Still counting while you read ... lost around 10 unborn children already??? Some where around 11 now???

Who are the terrorists then???

Sure - these unborn children cannot crawl or run away ... neither can those who were born FULLY without their heads being ripped off before they full com out the womb ... but;

We want to label each other and call each other a terrorist or one of Islam or Iran or Alabamama Georgia hill country ... playing a banjo and with funny ears ....

Count the death toll so far ... since I started writing this response ... how many did our alleged lawful DOCTORS MURDER ...sorry ... ummm - help those who spread their legs for satisfaction to discover they had a responsibility attached ....

And the Doctor simply helped them out of ... by ending a life that did not begin ... why - because the legs did not come out of the womb ... only the CRYING HEAD ... sucking for air - cut it off and pull the rest of the dead body out ... no responsibility - no living baby ... payment made and everyone satisfied ...

Hmmm ... maybe 50 new abortions since you started reading this ...

Let me ask ....

How many terrorists have claimed responsibility for this crime for the last 10 min in your reading this????

who then are the real terrorists???

Please come to awakening my children ... WAKE UP ... and do not condone that which will be the end of you as well.

Peace;

Aintmyfault

Have you forgotten 9/11 already?

I could get into a list that will fill five pages on the moral depravity in America. No time tonight. Maybe I'll do it on my blog this weekend.

It depends on the definition of morals. I'm not a Christian, and I think our society could be better. But the alternative they propose is oppressive.

I think there is a threat of terrorism to this country, and very little worthwhile has actually been done to prevent another attack in this country. Our president is delusional if he actually thinks the "War in Iraq" is preventing another attack. Al Qaeda worked for several years to plan 9/11. It's now been several years since then. I think an attack may well occur this year.

No and no - America is the biggest threat to itself in the grand scheme of things. If it never got too big for its britches, never became the opposite of the very principles it was founded on, and didn't throw its weight around with its erring "might is right" shows of force, then there never would have been terrorist attacks in the first place.

Sad but true.

Religionists are a threat to the human race. These radical superstitious reprobates have kept and if permitted will keep civilization in a prison of intolerance and ignorance with a policy of nonsense as they have tried to do for ages. Left to them the earth would be flat and the center of the universe. Some goofy savage waving a scimitar and riding a camel with nothing but violence and vengeance to support his bloody barbarian creed is a fruitcake. Any god is a representation of a murderer.
