Does that mean God does or does not lead us into temptation? And if he does allow us to be lead into temptation , why are we condemned when we fail?

God does not tempt us but Satan does. Our responsibillity is to put on the armour of God and walk away from temptation. God does allow us to be tempted...if He didn't how would we be able to put into action what we say we can do or believe? If we fall, well then praise God for His grace of mercy and forgiveness which allows us to get up again and continue with an experience that serves to build the type of character that God is looking for in us in order to complete His work in us.

The prayer is asking God to keep us from the Temptations that are out there, to keep us safe from satan's lead.

James 1: 13-14 says, "When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed."

In context,Jesus went on to say.."but deliver us from evil"...the prayer is a petition to God to protect us from and keep us from wrong doing....God tempts no one with evil.
