Uh, no. People were killed for saying the earth revolved around the sun, women who washed too often were called whores, and men had the right to rape their wives. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. No religion should be allowed to be dominant.

The Middle Ages are called by many historians "The Age of Faith." It was a time when the Universities were built, Monasteries existed throughout Europe and the Society was very connected to the Catholic Church. The Bible was available to most people in the form of their local church. The buildings themselves were lessons in Scripture. There is a book called, "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization" by Thomas E. Woods, Ph.D. "How to Read a Church."
The more historians look into the socalled "Dark Ages" the more they find light there.
I have worked in Public Schools for years. Public Schools are so jaded against the Catholic Church that they go so far as to teach false history. The Church, any church must look bad in public Schools because schools are being used to do social engineering. That engineering is very liberal and very anti-church.
Do you know how many Catholic Scientists there were? Do you know how many forms of technology the middle ages was responsible for? Do you know how the Church raised the level of learning?
Put Protestant and secular prejudice aside. The Middle Ages were not the ingorant times you think they were.
A case in Point. Remember the big thing about taking baths once a year. Do you think that in Italy or southern France they took baths only once a year? No, it was England the north, because it was so cold.
The Middle Ages had their good points and you would be praying to Allah right now if it weren't for the Crusades. The muslims were coming in from the Eastern Catholic and Orthodox areas of Europe and coming in through Spain. So thank God for the Crusades or you would be praying the Koran instead the bible.
Ignorance of history is no excuse.

Desiree, if you do not see the power and influence it still has, you live in a fantasy world. Religion is very involved in politics, hell it is politic in itself. Till religion will play a part in people's government, thus people's business, it will never be pleasant.

definitely Christianity is and has been interior the previous very violent. And yet this exhibits me what an somewhat good God we serve. Christianity from the very initiating became regarded upon as a gaggle of misfits, outcasts fishermen, tax creditors, attorneys. a number of them have been warm heads, Jesus, knew he had a traitor interior the bunch. yet this is the gang He desperate to apply. in the initiating once you learn them and their fears, you think of he can no longer use those guy, yet whilst those men are harder via the Holy Spirit, they become like new men. Then there is Paul is interest became to imprison, even homicide, Christian's and he enjoyed his interest. yet, God enjoyed him extra and had to apply him. as quickly as the Spirit entered Him, the excitement he had murdering Christian's, became the comparable excitement he had spreading the gospel. God's love is going previous what we've carried out. he isn't into scaring human beings to do solid, like maximum religions, that isn't unfastened will, it somewhat is imprisonment. the ten commandments is there to coach us we are no longer suitable we do fall short, however the Jesus comes and says as God " yet i admire you lots I took care of it." we do attempt to stay a maximum suitable existence, out of affection no longer concern. because of the fact we've a loving dating with God, and in any loving dating we attempt and appreciate one yet another.

This is a loaded question. It depends on what time you are referring to. I think when we didn't have such a high divorce rate, children out of wedlock, etc. it was a better time. People just treated each other better and had higher standards to live up to for themselves. And I am sure you all will just kill me for this answer.
