I an going to be performing in front of at least 70 people on the 27th of July, but i kind of get nervous in front of large crowds. What should be done to get over this? And why should i not be afraid?

A question I have battled with many times. Practice in front of anyone you can. Practice in front of the mirror. Know the piece you are performing inside and out. Practice while visualizing you in front of the crowd and being successful. Practice breathing. Be conscious of your breathing at all times. Deep breathing reduces tension. Practice relaxing all the muscles in your body. Don't focus on your mistakes or on the hard passages coming up- just be where you are. Take it note by note. And finally try recording yourself with a digital recorder or a digital camcorder is better. Watch yourself but don't be too overly critical. Believe it or not people are rooting for you. No one is going to be there hoping you fail so you don't need to be afraid. And remember we are always hypercritcal of ourselves. You know that piece better than anyone else there. They aren't going to notice most of the "mistakes" you notice.

I have a performance on July 27th too! Lol.
I think the best thing to do about stage fright is to keep getting up in front of people as much as you can, and that might not make the fear go away, but the more you do it the easier it will become.
And remember that the people you are getting in front of are all just that, people. And also remember that other people in the performance are probably nervous too, so you're not alone.
Make sure you're really prepared, know your routine etc. inside and out, and I promise you'll feel a lot better. Know it so well that you could do it in your sleep.
Remember that your talent is something to be proud of, and being on stage, you are already doing something that a lot of "brave" people wouldn't dare to do. It takes a lot of courage to be able to put yourself out there in front of people, and you deserve a lot of credit for that, because a lot of people are too afraid to do that and their talent is never seen.
And make it fun! Remember what you love about whatever it is you're doing on stage (I don't know if it's singing, dancing, whatever.) You get the attention of everyone in the room, soak it up and enjoy it! It's your time and your performance, own it.
Now break a leg, and have a blast!!

What kind of performing are you doing? I have played an instrument solo before in front of an audience and have given speeches. The best way for me if you do not have to interact with the audience is to block the audience out. You should be completely focused on your performance. The audience doesn't matter then. Imagine that you are alone practicing your performance. If it is a play, keep focused on your fellow actors or if you are delivering a monologue, choose at spot out into the theater without looking directly at someone.

The best way to practice for something is to practice the hardest parts as close to the real circumstances as you can get. My suggestion is to sing in front of a lot of different people over the next week, especially people that you think of as intimidating. Performing in front of people that you are not totally comfortable with is not easy, but it should definitely help boost your confidence. Just to be on the safe side, though, don't sing to random strangers: try and make it people you know somewhat well, like friends' parents or something like that. I've done this, picking a practice room at somewhat random and playing for someone to help me get over my nervousness. It definitely helped, although I didn't do it as much I should've, and I still don't: my gitters are still there. Rock on.

If you are not afraid, you don't understand the situation. Many great actors have repeatedly stated that they were full of stage-fright before EVERY PERFORMANCE.
I have often addressed various groups and even performed in front of them. I was always nervous. It goes with the territory. You just accept it and go on anyway.
Imagine that your best friend is non-judgmental and perform for that friend even if the friend is not there.

Practice infront of your friends & family a few times.

Personally, i feel a lot better infront of strangers than i do infront of people i know.
