thanks for all your answers.Hes only been in for 2 years. His feet are deformed and they been like that since birth but somehow meps passed him.Only the symptoms have gotten worse since he started basic training. He talked to his srgt and he said that he will get benefits of some form.Im just scared if he decided to take the med board leave then we might be broke on the streets.
If we decided to try and go to the med board and we dont like the benefits they want to give us,can we change our mind and stay in the army or once we go through med board we cant?

Does he have more than three years of active service? If so, even if his condition existed prior to entry and should have disqualified him, his condition is considered service connected. If the Medical Board report indicates he is no longer fit for continued service, then it will be referred to the Physical Evaluation Board. That panel will make a proposed award of disability, based on a percentage. If he accepts that award, and it is 10% or higher, then he will be medically retired and retain all of the base privileges he currently has. So will his lawful dependents. If it is less than 10%, he will be given a discharge instead of assignment to the disability retired list. Should that happen, he should file a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs for a service connected disability. If they award him for a disability that monthly payment is exempt from Federal taxes.

Well he would have an Honorable discharge because medical is Honorable. But now is he going to get a rating of disability so he receives a check or no?If he isn't considered disabled he might just want to stay in so he has an income. That decision ids up to you and him.

he would get a "medical discharge." But if he can proove that his conditions occured while serving on active duty, than he is entitled to many different types of compensation.

It's best only if he qualifies for disability.... otherwise, they may just kick him out with a bus ticket home.

How long has he been in? I ask because it affects what benefits he might be entitled to.

It seems to me that no one has ever cared too much about my discharge status.
