I purchased a 2007 Camry for my wife. It hesitates, stalls, and downshifts constantly. It gets 21 mpg. Dealers say there is no fix. Apparently this is common. Should have bought American.

Unfortunately the *sparkling* reputation of ToMoCo has been suffering with the numerous exposes of the issues that have long been swept under the carpet.

The 2007 Camry is not the only one !( I just wrote up & researched an answer about a 2001 Camry that even surprised me)But it is opening a lot of eyes, and I don't mean that in a 'good way'.

Your Transmission is not the only problem with this poor excuse of a redesigned car. And it has NOTHING to do with your wife's ability to drive!

This is the current NHTSA-odi complaint file for the 2007 Camry:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/complaintresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=1&year=2007&make=TOYOTA&model=CAMRY&component_id=0&PrintVersion=YES
( I stopped counting but I think about half of the 208 formal safety complaints are about the transmissions)
Apparently Toyota refuses to admit that there is a problem or a fix so that makes it difficult to claim it as a "Lemon". You will need to document your problems & file anyway, but they don't seem to be cooperating.

Start the process by visiting the Lemon Law site for your state.

also file with the NHTSA:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

Best of luck to you!

btw,
Yea, you should have bought American & just because there is a factory in America, doesn't make it American.

The 2007 Camry's reliability isn't as good as it was in the 1990s/early 2000s but it's better than the 2007 Mazda CX-7.

Wow, people seem to be taking this real personally and getting angry!

I have to be honest, I have NEVER heard of this happening with a Toyota, especially a brand new one. I personally know two people with '07 Camrys and they both LOVE them. Is it possible that it's the place you live such as steep hills that might antagonize the transmission. If so, try overdrive off. I do not believe that a brand new automatic Toyota would stall though. Sorry. And if it gets 21 MPG, someone's driving it way too aggressively.

I do work in most of the auto plants in America and Canada providing body protection. They DO NOT speed up the assay. line to double output. It takes so long to build a car and it can't be doubled up like the other jerk says. I have been in the Corolla plant in CA. and the Lexus and Rav 4 plant in Ont. Canada and both are very high on Quality. My neighbor has an 07 Camry 4 cylinder and has no problems with her's. The cam shaft problem has been fixed on the Tundra. It was a supplier problem. Check it out. The Corolla,Tundra and Tacoma are all built in this Country ( USA ) BMW, Mercedes, Honda, and Nissan have plants in this Country ( USA )

I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid and absolutely love my car. In my family alone my dad has a Highlander Hybrid, my mom had the Avalon, my brother has the Tundra, and my sister in law has the Prius. Check to see if you have the "Lemon Law" in your state.

yep, you should have bought American. So many people think the Camry is the greatest available because about 60% of poeple on their block have them so they think they've gotta be good, right? well since so many people are buying them the demand is high and Toyota has to produce them twice as fast and are half assing the job which so many people think is a great car. Just give it a couple years, or even months. It'll be recall city...

I bought a 99 Solara SLE 6 cyl brand new in 99.To this date I have replaced tyres, brakes, one rad cap and one tail light bulb, changed oil and filter every 5000k,flushed and changed trans fluid as recommended by Toyota, this car has not had a tune up yet,it runs as well as the day I bought it. For quality you won't find a finer automobile.
