I had a dream that my teenager was brutally beaten form peers that he thought were his friends. It was so vivid, I can recall every little detail.

time is a man-made concept believe it or not. can you remember going on a trip and it seeming like it was over as soon as it started b/c it was so fun. can you remember watching a clock tick because you were so bored and ready to do something else? its all relative. the rate your mind processes information can approach the rate of reality but it can never go faster - a variation of Einsteins Special Theory of Relativity. but in a dream, reality doesn't exist, so the mind has an artificial reality that it can create with different parameters such as: the amount of time in reality for these thoughts to be processed. so basically, your brain creates that thought that the dream's reality was 30 minutes to an hour long.

you can take this a step farther and say that because the artificial reality is based upon reality, and realities concept of time is man-made, then what is actually real cannot be determined with certainty. this is where the philosophy of solipsism kicks in. look it up, its pretty cool.

You just have to connect it to something in the real world and then make a rational assessment and realize that "it was just a dream". For instance, when I was younger, which was during the Cold War, I used to have dreams, or I should say nightmares about nuclear war and atom bombs blowing up. After a while, when nothing happened in the "real world" I realized that "it was just a dream" and these nightmares stopped happening. But I did have something in reality to connect the dream with.

So, in your case, just ask yourself some common sense questions: Do I live in a neighborhood where there are gangs, youth violence, or violence in your community? Have you watched stories on the news about this kind of thing happening? Are you just worried that this could indeed happen to your teenager and you haven't talked about it with them, or when you do talk about it with them, you don't get a straight answer? If you answer yes to any or more of these questions, then there is your answer. As far as it meaning anything, like could it actually happen, well, that can only be answered by time and the steps you and your teenager take to prevent it. Fortunately, most of the time, violent nightmares do not happen, but at least they are there to offer guidance and in extreme cases, warn us.

If you just went through a regular, nothing special day, the dream probably doesn't mean anything. If anything important or big happens, or you find out something, it probably does mean something. Also, dreams can't be visits to another dimension, because you are still there and other dimensions don't exist.

It probably means that you really do fear for his safety...it's hard for parents to let their teenagers go out into the world on their own. Even if he's still living with you, he's probably at an age where he relies more on his friends for company, for approval, for everything...and that frightens you. You want your son to be safe, and you are used to being the one to look out for him. You're not sure his friends are going to be the best influence, or will protect him- you might even fear that they will end up hurting him somehow...maybe not physically, but in some other way? But you have to trust that he is old enough to make some mistakes on his own (and he'll be o.k.!)...inevitably, he will, regardless of how well you try to shield him from certain things. It's a fear every parent has. We want our kids to look to us for guidance, and when they start showing independence, it takes some of that control out of our hands. He's bound to take a few bumps and bruises along the way...(hopefully figuratively, not literally!)...it's natural- just not easy for parents to deal with.

you are close to your child. You fear for him. Generally this sort of dream relates to your fear of him getting hurt: either physically or emotionally, in the future. It is not a premonition of an actual event but a general fear for him and his sensitivities.
