I am painting pictures and have just started in Acrylics and don't really know much about them. I find it frustrating that the paint dries so quickly, and so when doing a large area it does not go on smoothly because it dries so quickly. I'm looking for something that will help with the flow of paint.

I either have a bottle with to spray the acrylic on the palette down, so they won't dry so much. But if you have a retarder medium, that also works. My art teacher used to use this flow medium stuff, that works good too.

Retarder

or

My personal favorite a spray-bottle. Just a light whiff of water every now and then keeps the paint wet and workable. It will need some practice to not overdo the water but in my opinion it works better than the chemical solutions that you can not time.

Try a gel medium you can purchase at just about any art store.
