He's in AIT right now, and got his first set of orders for a 1 year unaccompanied tour (go figure). Is there ANY way that he can go to a different base, like in Yongsan, where you can PCS your family? He is only 2 years active duty, then goes to reserve. I'm thinking that's why he's going on an unaccompanied tour. If he changes his contract to 6 years active, can he get his orders changed? If anyone knows of ANY way, I'd love to hear from you. Please, only serious, kind answers.

It all depends upon the needs of the Army! With only a two year deal, he hasn't got enough time for anything else for sure, but before committing to more time, I would make sure to get a new assignment guaranteed in writing!

if he is under the National Call to Service, then no, he will not be able to change his orders to accompanied. and in fact, a large portion of First termers are NOT allowed to bring Family members to Korea, regardless of how many years their Active Duty Obligation is.

His chances are very slim, but he can always ask when he gets there. Just expect them to be denied.

Did he join the Army without any guidance? choice of job (MOS), or Assignments?
with a 2 year enlistment, His options are slim to none!
suck it up and he probably can come home on leave half way thru his tour in Korea, provided his unit doesn't rotate to Iraq!

I don't think he can change these orders. Then again, you should be questioning his Commanding Officer. If they change his orders, then they would have to do it for every body else. I say NO.

And DON'T listen to Yvonne, faking a pregnancy or telling lies to the Military will get him & YOU in deep sh*t. He will end up getting a DISHONORABLE discharge. So, never ever lie or fake anything just to avoid orders. It's not worth it.

Not that I'm aware of.Unless you have med problems. Because if he got those orders it's from the big brass and he can't get them changed however some military posts will allow you to live on base while he is away and when he gets back you can get permanet housing on Post 'm sorry but that's where they need him right now that's where he has to go.

I'm sorry, the needs of the military come first. He is lucky he didn't go to Iraq. At least in Korea he can be reasonably assured he won't get extended.

My husband served in Vietnam, after his return 18 months later he received orders for Korea. I hate to tell you, but there is no way to get out of it.

If you can find someone with the same job and qualifications who wants to trade, you can do that through your command. Start asking around.

Doesn't sound like these other answerers know what they are talking about, don't pay them any mind.
