Okay, I'm sick of everyones BULLSHIT in my life right now....and I want to join the service, either the Marines, or U.S Army... I know the Marines have a longer bootcamp then the Army. Tell me your opinions on both the marines and army, and the pros and cons.

Which would you suggest I join?

Either way, I'm joining the Amry or Marines. So don't try and answer with Navy or AF, because I'm not joining that ****

Go to Military.com and research both branches and decide what you want. I was in the Army Active Duty and well the Marines alwayss made fun of us saying "The Army Ain't Ready For The Marines Yet!". The Army alway retaliated but i won't say what we said. But for me the Army is the best i don't know about the Marines both branches have a lot of pride. The pros for the Army is we have less BCT weeks 9 weeks. The Marines have 12 weeks. The cons are being away from home for so long as well as the tasteless food MRE's. Don't get me wrong some of the food in the Army was good but, it needed more flavor.

Army deploys for waaaay longer. Marines currently do 6 or 7 month tours, while Army is over there for year to 18 months. That's crazy, and it really takes a toll on you.
USMC just hit record highs for bonuses. My husband (currently usmc) went to talk to Army and the guy didnt even get up to shake his hand, just handed him a pamphlet. Army was offering about 1/3rd of what Marines are offering.
My opinion may be biased, but the best advice I can give you is to chose an MOS that you can actually use if you want to get out at the end of your contract. DO NOT GO GRUNT!!! (unless you want to spend the rest of your life in the corps) Do something in communications or admin, you can go anywhere with military experience in those areas.

Cody S:
"Think about it Marines:pros: cool bootcamp,Good marksmanship,Pretty uniform. Cons:Can't pick ur job, no Airborne, no college.
Army:pros: Excellent boot camp,Advanced MOS training, Airborne,College fund, reserves,Better ROTC, You pick your MOS.
Cons:not as pretty uniform, pretty good marksmanship."

Marines do get to pick their job you have 3 choices and they will give you one of your top 3. And yes you do get college money all branches of service do. The GI Bill isn't based on your branch of service but what your time in service. Marines also have reserves http://www.mfr.usmc.mil/ and if Army ROTC is so much better then why do they use Marine Corps instructional videos? I would beg to differ about Army bootcamp being "excellent" it used to be good but not anymore. Not since they allow stress cards, smoke breaks, and the Drill Sergeants can't yell anymore. How are you supposed to prepare for combat stress if in bootcamp everytime you get stressed out you hand somebody a stress card and they leave you alone? Please get your facts straight before you slander the Marine Corps. As for my opinion? Esprit de Corps. Once a Marine, Always a Marine there are no former Marines. Some criticize the Marine Corps for being the smaller of the two "combat forces" but really it just makes it a closer knit group. If you want a new "family" join the Marine Corps but just realize even once you "get out" you'll always be a Marine, other people who have gotten out, veterans from many different wars, and Marines still in will walk by you see the EGA on you shirt and say Semper Fi. Its not arrogance if you can back it up.

Two good choices. As a former Marine my opinion is tilted. What do you want from service? Schooling or to be the tip of the spear when its time to DO? Schooling-Army,Spear - Marines. Dont worry about longer bootcamp in the Corps. You'll just be better prepared.

Joining to escape family problems? Sounds like a lot of people in the army I know. Both services are in Iraq and Afghanistan and are doing basically the same thing. Marines will tell you they are better. They are basically the same.

Don't talk about the Navy or Air Force like that. Air Force soldiers can kick the crap out of Army in sports, academics, and physical fitness. You know that Marines is a branch of the Navy.

well from what i heard from family and friends you really dont get to choose your path in the marines they put you where you fit the best and where they need you. in the army on the other hand i know because i am a soldier you choose your job according to your asvab test scores and availibilty in certain feilds, or where the army is in need of troops... but with a high enough asvab test you could pretty much get any job you want so long as your back round check permits..

If you go combat arms in the Army, you will be stuck in basic training for 4 months. They call it OSUT. Not sure how long Marine Basic/Boot is.

If you are willing to go above and beyond what is expected of the standard American soldier (which is a lot) then join the Marines. This, however, is at your discretion.
