How long have you known this woman and her kids? I'm assuming not overly long. These kids are so young and impressionable that the 1st male that spends any time with them, they will call them "daddy", you happen to be the only male in their lives. If I were you, I'd talk with your wife and see what she thinks, if it's ok with her, then yea continue let them calling you "daddy", if not then ask them to call you by another name. I think you need to let all the kids grow into seeing you in that role for real, not just beacuse your some male in their life, right now your just a male presence, but in time, they will REALLY consider you their father if you do right by them. Hope this helps.

Mommy is a term of endearment and closeness. If you feel that you and her have that type of relationship call her mommy but don't feel like you have to just because they are now married....you can still only have one "real" mommy.

I am going to become a step mom when I am married next June...I would feel very uncomfortable with his children calling me anything but my name. They are 19 and 23 and do call my parents "grandma and grandpa", which is fine...but for me, the name will be it.

No. You can ask her what she wants you to call her. Personally, you have a mother and no one is your mommy except the mother who gave birth to you. I think an appropriate thing to do is ask her what would be alright to call her.

I never made a big deal about it. It took ten years for my step daughter to call me dad. But it sure felt good when she was finally comfortable enough and respected me enough to call me that. I would think the same situation would apply to you, in that it's not fair of them to expect you to call her mom, untill you are ready to. She will never be your mother, but she may turn out to be a great mom. My daughter will never call me father, nor should she.

Depending on your relationship with her and with your own mother will greatly help in making that decision. However, ask her is she would be offended if you called her Momma "Mary", or whatever her first name is. That way she still feels like you accept her into the family, but you still respect your own mother.

That's completely up to you. If that's what you feel comfortable with (and she does too) then go ahead. If you don't feel comfortable call her by her name. Also, I would ask your mother how she feels about it because you wouldn't want to hurt her feelings on accident by calling another woman mommy.

I called dad's wives post mom by their names. They weren't going to be my mother as I had one of those plus I knew they wouldn't be around long so no need to start forging lifelong bonds.
