Being reborn is something that we as Christians become when we repent our sins and are saved. We are born again...meaning we have a renewed life, a renewed self...because we accept Christ into our hearts. I don't think the person that answered your question before (I didn't read it so I'm not sure what it was) knew what they were talking about unless they were thinking about the belief of reincarnation....not so much being "reborn" but it's a belief of your spirit being brought back to life in another life. Like if some one died 15 years ago, then they can come back as a new born baby...or a fly...lol..etc...people that are reincarnated I don't think choose who or what they come back as...I don't know too much about it. But it's said that those who are the reincarnated form can remember things that happened in a past life...usually when they are very young...it is said that little children have very strong psychic abilities and can pick up on things like that.

I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for in an answer but that's what I sort of understand your question to be.

UPDATE!!!
I just read the answer you were referring to...that answerer was referring to being reincarnated...like the life cycle never ends, when this body dies the spirit or soul is reborn as another person with no recollection of other past lives. If that was possible, then I think that mentally or physically disabled people probably would have been mentally of physically disabled in the life the spirit just left...know what I mean...that's my take on it...
But, I am a Christian so I don't believe that this is even remotely possible

The idea that you can die and be reborn in another life is usually in response to the life that you've already lived. If you live a good life you move on to a better life the next time. If you don't live a good life than you move on to one that's not so great the next time. So being reborn with a mental disability might be considered a kind of punishment for not living a good life the last time.

From my personal Buddhist perspective:

You're right when you say most *people* would not want to be disabled if given the choice, but then we're not "people" or even "individuals" in-between our human lives. If you believe in the idea of choosing where, when, and how to be reborn you also recognize that when making those choices, a Buddhist would choose to be born in a life that would teach them the most, conquer their greatest failing, or generally bring them a step closer to enlightenment. Perhaps in your past life you were cruel to the disabled, and in the hopes of teaching yourself to be more generous and understanding you undertake that life. Perhaps you were particularly vain about your looks or your intelligence and living a life without either may be a humbling experience. Just like you might choose to be born into poverty if you had great wealth in a previous life, it is a step to understanding and a lesson to be learned. As a Buddhist I believe we each have to take part in the vast spectrum of human experiences before reaching a deeper understanding.

Idealogy's like that are simply lies from satan. He is so slick he has people believing all kinds of crazy stuff, but he'll get his shortly. The sad thing is how many people will he take down with him in the end?

Ok this is why peopl are born with all kinds of disabilities etc. When Adam sinned in the garden of Eden, he sinned for all mankind meaning that now we as humans are born into sin. We are born into a sinful nature, a natural desire to do sin. And when Adam sinned God told him before he did it not to do it that he would surely die, but God meant die both spiritually and pyhsically. And if you read the book of Genesis (read something other than the old english king james version which will confuse you with all the "thee's" and "thou's") you will read how when Adam sinned a curse was brought down upon all mankind so that is why we still have people born with disabilities etc. it all stems from the fall of man back in Eden.

In my studies of past life regressions and past lives in general, I have read that people who are disabled or very sick might actually be at a "higher level" so to speak and have actually chosen a greater "challenge" or "lesson" for this go round. Sounds interesting and seems to fall in line with everything else I've learned. It seems that we are constantly mastering different lessons as we go through lives and we are climbing a sort of hierarchy in our existence .
