[s.o.h.c.] dot on cam cog aligns with mark on back of timing cover at 11:30 position dot on intermediat shaft cog aligns cover mark at 3:00 position the crank cog mark [@rear edge of cog aligns with mark on oil seal housing .
note if using a factory or aftermarket [marked] belt the stripes align with the dots on the cam and intermediat cogs but the crankshaft cog stripe aligns with the key way in the crank shaft [ yes after installing you will have to turn the engine backwards a few teeth to check the belt position is correct at the crank ] also over the years i have had a couple of incorrectly marked aftermarket belts so unless you use a volvo belt you need to verify the stripes align with the cogs and the cogs agree with the timing cover marks[i have never had a mismarked" volvo " belt also note the spring loaded tensioner should be checked for noise and roughness and replaced a/r. good luck and have fun.
