It is highly likely... I have Genital HSV1 and got this from receiving oral sex from someone who didn't even have an active cold sore.. they had one a week prior but cause the virus sheds (Oral HSV1 is about 20-18% of the year) I got it... Fortunately stats show that Genital HSV1 is less severe than Genital HSV2 and outbreaks less... stats show that GHSV1 tends to have 1 outbreak and then none at all... or 1 every second year... however you will still shed the virus 5-3% of the year where you can pass it on... A person can not get HSV1 twice... so if you have sex with someone who gets cold sores it would be rare to then give them genital HSV1 as they already have oral HSV1... although someone can get Oral HSV1 and Genital HSV2...
