I have my BA degree in Spanish & a low GPA of 2.3, but I know I'm more challenged than normal people. My mental illness is hindering me from performing as well as other people. I have my degree, but I'm taking extra undergrad classes to try to strengthen my GPA, but I'm struggling. Do you think I'm too hard on myself by being afraid to write a research paper because of fear of failure & then having anxiety attacks because of it? Should I stay in school or drop out? Being under these conditions, I feel like it's useless for me to go back to school if I'm not gonna pass.

I'm just so stressed out & depressed & been having anxiety attacks over 1 research paper, but it's almost our whole grade in the class for this summer. Maybe it's because I'm a perfectionist & feel like if I can't do it perfectly right then I can't do it at all. I wonder is it mentally healthy for me to be back in school? I think I need to be mentally hospitalized. I told my psychiatrist about this.

To you, Michael H, who said I'm not a perfectionist. I have a 2.3 because of many downfalls & weaknesses because of my mental disability that are beyind my control, but I do try my best.

Yes, I do think you are being too hard on yourself by being afraid to write a research paper. If you will just start with one sentence and see where you might go from there, it could motivate you to do a little more. Then before you know it, it could be half done. And a bit more work and it's finished. All of a sudden you realize it's over, and you think it's not too bad. You turn it in and breathe a sigh of relief. When you get the grade, it's pretty good and all your anxieties fly away. You passed!!!!
You faced it and now you are stronger the next time you are afraid of failing. Go for it, and be proud of yourself for trying no matter what the outcome is.

I wish you luck and think you should be proud of your degree in Spanish. You're doing pretty darn good for someone who's struggling and anxious. Focus on your positive qualities and refuse to give in to any negatives. You'll be okay!

If you are having anxiety attacks and other illnesses because of school, then you DO NOT belong there. Nothing is worth your health - either physical or mental. Can you possibly get financial aid to go to school on a part-time basis or to audit classes? This will keep you in school if that is what you want but allow you to concentrate on only a class or two at a time. It will also give you somethiing to do with your time; something that helps you gain knowledge.

I hope you can check into this and see what kind of help you can get.

I hope your psychiatrist was supportive when you talked to him or her.

Keep yourself up-to-date on your assignments. If you are behind in anything, ask the teacher for an extension. Let your teachers know that you are feeling overwhelmed. That's their job to help you. What grade are you in? Sounds like you need to make a goal chart and get organized. Ask if you may talk to your school counselor and get help with this before the stress over takes you.

It's just my opinion, but, I don't think you need to be hospitalized. There are ways to handle stress, such as, exercise, etc. Research it on the computer. Worry is not unusual. We all, as human beings do it. But, think about it, what does worry accomplish? All each one of us can do, is "do the best we can"! Do your homework & feel confident about yourself. If you have already gotten a degree, your no dummy. So ease up on yourself & relax.

you said you have your degree already=SO=what is there to get stressed out about =you want to increase your knowledge yes ,but it is not a requirement ,so therefore ,you should relax and enjoy it=you don't need to be hospitalized =you are a smart person ,but have little faith in yourself =you sound like a very good person and can be with it if you let yourself=give it a try

Carrying a 2.3GPA is not the sign of a perfectionsist. I think you have some seriosu issues, no doubt, and adding classes to a rough schedule is not going to help any either.....

Can you withdrawl either passing or incomplete and lighten your load for a semester or two?

Lighten the load, let the meds balance (no dose) and see where it goes....
