I've taken a long break from Yahoo Answers, and when I came back, the amount of hatred that I saw some people on here displaying shocked me! There are people who had basically brainwashed themselves to automatically recoil against anyone of a certain religion, political party, or sexual orientation. What do you think causes people to exert so much energy in order to put themselves into a state of mind that is, essentially, a psychologically destructive one?

For me, it would take up alot of my willpower to force myself to absolutely despise someone. Indifference seems to be the norm, for me at least...

It isn't assertion, a very young child never feels hatred, jealousy perhaps, or indifference, but never hatred. It is obviously not an inborn characteristic, as it hasn't been observed in nature either. So it has to be created somehow, and creating something requires energy. Hating someone or something is psychologically destructive, because it cause one to become biased towards other ideas and concepts which are associated with the thing that is hated, which in turn stiffles our mental growth and limits our understanding of the world...

Honestly Mirage, it's a lack of realization. As a former "hater" myself, I recall a conversation w/ a friend & the conversation lead to, " Why, how many people do u hate?" I started counting- I think the number was about 8 or 9. I was 18, my friend about 23. And he replies to me: " Why do u let them rent space?" If there could have been a lightning bolt or a light bulb over my head, I wouldn't of lit up much more. From that very moment, my conscious efforts were to no longer hate.
I was fortunate to have that friend, and the common sense to let it go, unfortunately, some people can not.
And also, I just think some people feed off their own hate, instead of their own love.

Sorry, someone should have known you were gone - and told you about the downward turn here in Yahoo Q&A, and in R&S. In General - Cultures & Groups it's really bad.
People are just not themselves on the net, and are saying very amazing things, because no one knows who is saying what. That and some really think that being rude will change someone's life, from the path they are on.
My small hope is a few are learning something important about being rude, and carrying it over into the real world where they are nicer.
Don't know if anyone has blasted you for being a kind human being - but I'd suggest being prepared for abuse.

Why have you made such assumptions? Sounds like sheer psychobabble. All things aside on this site, you need to get a real education. What makes you think hate is energy consumptive? Why would it necessarily be psychologically destructive? I see nothing but assertion; just as one of these fundies would do. Where is the evidence of your assertions? Scientific; not social science.
Then you just continue making assertions! You do no what the word means, don't you? How do you know that there are no children who feel hate? I think you are a very silly young lady, who does not have the ghost of an idea about which you speak.
Indifference is the norm for me, also, as I am a schizoid personality type. I can properly asses behavior, though, without resorting to psychobabble.

This is an expensive question. The people who have faded hearts do always hate others for no reasons. By hating others they never get any practically pleasure. It’s their mental disorder for which they can’t get relieve or get away from the scene on wasting their time in hating others. The point is that they are not hurting others; they are hurting themselves and wounding their own hearts. Finally, after a deep review on your questions the result is that those people who hate others will never get changed, and their sickness will remain along with them to the rest of their life which is perfectly true

I think its part of human nature, especially if a person feel strongly about something they feel like they have to defend it. something else I have noticed is the impersonality of this service. Being on the internet, not having to show an identity, people feel free to be open about their prejudices and stereotypes, which in society are not acceptable to talk about openly anymore. But I think most of us do stereotype and I guess this is a free place to say what we think. And it is ugly and angry, but it is the truth. People are not as nice as they seem in person, once people are not afraid of what others will think you find out how homophobic, or racist they are. you know.... I guess this is a place for people to vent their feelings. Better this than shooting up a school at least

Human's are a unique animal. Keep in the mind the word animal. In fact a recent study suggests that one of our closest relatives the Chimp, get's angry but never get's spiteful. Is spite the same as hate, maybe not, but pretty close. I think it's hardwired into the R-Complex part of the human brain personally.
From wikipedia (sources confirmed)
"The R-complex is named for the most advanced part of the brain higher mammals share with reptiles. It is responsible for rage[1], xenophobia[1], basic survival fight-or-flight responses[1], "

Hello Mirage..
I have been wondering on the same issue for some time and I have come to this conclusion that it is inbred in those and they seem to get some kind of gratification by displaying such hatred.
This life is to short to hate.. live it so that your numbered days here are help full to the mankind.
For isn't life a kind of mirage...a kind of deception for humans,a temporary phase to pass through? I wounder what has our species come to.

Mirage,
I am also GLAD to see you again! I am very upset at times from the amount of hate shown to others. I do not know why some people feel that they need to act like this. Have a wonderful evening.
Thanks,

Your question proves that there is hope for mankind and that the younger generation will redress the situation.
O COMPANION OF MY THRONE!
Hear no evil, and see no evil, abase not thyself, neither sigh and weep. Speak no evil, that thou mayest not hear it spoken unto thee, and magnify not the faults of others that thine own faults may not appear great; and wish not the abasement of anyone, that thine own abasement be not exposed. Live then the days of thy life, that are less than a fleeting moment, with thy mind stainless, thy heart unsullied, thy thoughts pure, and thy nature sanctified, so that, free and content, thou mayest put away this mortal frame, and repair unto the mystic paradise and abide in the eternal kingdom for evermore.

Personally, I don't choose to hate. It's the people who've wilfully done me wrong who triggered it. But then perhaps because I think that to hate someone on the Internet that I'm never going meet is very stupid, that's the reason it doesn't happen.
Some people, on the other hand, think it's fun to hate other people.
