I always wondered this. I think in the deepest corners of their mind, they really DO feel this way. In a small, tiny amount. I wish they felt it more. But yes, I think you're right on target.
Who wouldn't want to spend eternal in their heaven?
Watch 'what dreams may come'. Heaven does not HAVE to be just clouds and harps and cherubs. It can be AMAZING. Happiness, no sin, no sadness, no pain. Why wouldn't you want this? Why can't you try to find your way to God and the truth? Look for it.

If I live my life as a good person, then am not admitted into whatever "afterlife" there may be because of my personal beliefs. Then that is no afterlife that I would care to waste any time on earth being devoted to.

I am an atheist and I'm as honest about myself as I think it's possible to be. I have absolutely no secret hope of an afterlife and a benevolent God. Honestly, I would admit it if I did, but I simply don't.

I will admit that if God and the afterlife exists, I hope that He really doesn't let mas murderers like the "saved" Ted Bundy in while excluding "non-saved" persons like Gandhi. If this is the case, I don't want to go.

Sure, in the same way I keep hoping that magic will be real.....I mean I would love it if Harry Potter style magic was real.....but the probability of god & an after life is about as likely to me.
Wanting them to be real does not make them so.
I wanted god to be real for a long time when I was young but he is not.

I am an atheist. I don't have any hope for any sort of an afterlife, or any belief in any sort of an afterlife. Maybe there is one, maybe not. If so, I'll just roll with it, baby.

Nope. Why do I need to hope for it?
I'm comfortable with reality, and with the idea of death being final. I am a strong enough person that I don't need to run from reality, or be afraid.

the only way any body is going to know anything for sure is when they are dead. i believe in a loving, compassionate God. i believe that when we die and meet our maker face to face that He will give everyone one last chance to accept Him as our creator and His Son Jesus as our Saviour. i do not believe in a harsh God ready to destroy anyone just for the sake of sending them to hell for all of eternity. i don't care what you believe or don't believe while on earth. as long as you do what you feel is the right thing to do and you do not hurt others and are compassionate and caring.

No. Sorry. I have considered the possibility, but hope isn't really the correct word to use.

I'm Atheist and all though I do not believe in an afterlife it would be nice to think there was.
But like I said, I'm not delusional.

It would be 'nice' like they say, but I don't see any point in wasting my time in hope when there's so much to do in this life.
