people tell me that god surely exists

they tell me hes almighty, all-knowing and omnipotent

every year people die in poverty

now, either (i) god doesnt know about this, or (ii) god does know about this, but doesnt care, or (iii) god does know about this, but cant do anything about it

whichever it is, its clear to see that, at best, the definition of god is completely flawed and misleading, or, that god doesnt exist

therefore god, as defined by theists, doesnt exist

therefore belief in a saviour is folly

This is the mystery of suffering.

First let's start with the fact that GOD made us in HIS DIVINE image. That means 1. Those people suffering are images of GOD. 2. You are an image of GOD, as are we all. 3. GOD IS LOVE . ..

Now if you are made in the IMAGE OF LOVE shouldn't you LOVE them? if you do how much do you LOVE them? Would you give your LIFE for them as JESUS did, or just sit and complain about it while having all you personally need and more in many cases to those who accuse GOD. And of course since as you do unto them you've done so unto GOD you should realize that if you LOVE GOD you must LOVE your neighbor . .. you can't see GOD but you can see your neighbors . .. you therefore must see that it is easier to LOVE those you see than whom you cannot see therefore this is a DIVINE relationship of LOVE that we are our brother's keepers.

And of course JESUS CHRIST shall wipe away all tears. That means those suffering will come out best for their suffering today. You'd do well to choose to suffer and care for those who are suffering. But we do see most of us are weak and do not desire to suffer. It takes courage, strength, and a lot of faith, and of course THE HOLY SPIRIT and the BLOOD OF CHRIST in order to overcome, but those who do overcome will be called GREAT in the KINGDOM OF GOD being a pillar in the TEMPLE OF OUR GOD.

That's only part of the mystery of suffering, but i'm sure all will become clear to everyone in the near future when we stand before the LORD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH all in one place and goats are seperated from sheep.

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

God is just a word. Actually, god is dog spelled backwards. If you were driving down a highway and saw a sign that said Los Angeles, you might know that in that direction was that city, but a sign anywhere that says god, with or without an arrow, does not make a highway to god. It is just a symbol that humans use to try and argue about the answer to a question that can barely be asked, and never really answered. There is a lot of difference between the symbols that we use to name things and the things themselves. As far as god is concerned, language and meaning can never bridge the gap that separates a symbol from the thing it symbolizes. It just ain't in the cards!
As far as belief goes, believing in anything requires no proof because it produces no real truth. It is possible to believe in anything. Many things, though, just do not lie in the realm of the provable.

or (iv) he's God AND sometimes those countries don't receive the deliverance that He sends them

The truth of the matter is I am friends with a couple of engineers who have gone out to these places as volunteers. One was a Christian the other an atheist. They showed these people in these third world nations how to take care of the land and developed irrigation systems. The people would not attempt to retain the knowledge and eventually the engineers quit.

Is that God's fault? I think not.
There's an old joke about a guy whose stranded at sea, and he asks God for an answer. A guy in a boat comes by and offers to help and the stranded guy says, "No thanks, I'm waiting on God." Then a while latter a helicopter flies overhead and offers him a ride, and the man says "No thanks I'm waiting on God." Finally, a big tidal wave comes and the guy dies.
The guy is in heaven and he comes marching up to God and yells "Why didn't you save me?"
God laughs and said, 'Well I sent you a boat and a helicopter...."

Not funny, but something to think about. It's way too simplistic to blame God for all of our problems.....

allright lets say God can't do anything about it, he knows it but can't do anything,, so this meens that hes all knowing , supose he chooses to keep still ,, when the rattle snake bites if you remane calm keep your blood pressure down you stand a beter chance of servival , in a drouth if you water your garden the roots remain shallow and are closer to the scorching sun, sometimes it is wise to stand back and see where this is going, God gave the earth to satan to rule over , how can he take it back till satans done trying, God has to leave satan to his earth , Eden was Gods , thats when we broke Gods heart when we chose satan and the promisses he made us,, God can only watch as we feel the promisses being broken..God's just waiting for you to stand before him , I'm quite satisfied you'll feel the power on that day , QUITE, we are all sinners and the weight is UN BEARABLE,, you'll see TIME

All three of your assumptions are wrong. 1) God does know. 2) God cares. 3) God can and will (soon) do something about this. All of the worlds problems are based upon sin. Man caused his own discomfort. Not God.

Poverty, death, war, pollution...These are all man-made problems. Out of disobedience and rebellion they made earth a hard place to live. But the world will face judgment. And those whom believed and tried to make a difference will be rewarded. Be patient. It's coming.

Unlike with atheists (ie the man-made evolution philosophy). Theists didn't design their God. They acknowledged Him.

God bless

.Not a question. But here's my answer. We are our brothers keeper. The Bible says that if we have the goods of this world we are suppose to help the less fortunate. You have to admit that Oprah has enough money to feed a country or at least to help them become self sufficient.Look at Bill Gates and the rest of the billionaires.Whats wrong with them?Even our President when the Savings and Loans went under made sure he got paid when so many elderly lost all their savings they had spent their life working out. When asked about it he said he had worked for it.Several hundred thousand dollars. There is enough money to go around if those that have helped those in need.

Heres one more option. His second is to love your neighbour as yourself. Have your actions shown that you are really concerned about the poor? Or is this just a rant to exuse yourself to do your own thing? Honestly? There is no shortage of food and yet God gets the blame for mankinds greed.

Too right! Most of the religious people aren't even answering your question directly; they're making irrelevant points that do not conflict with your reasoning.

I'm surprised by the religious lot though. I thought by now someone would've said "it's the devil's doing" (surely theists don't need an atheist to do their job do they? lol).

But then it raises another question of "if God is all powerful, why is there Satan and why does he periodically win if bad things are attributed to him?"

All the bad in the world is created by humans, because God allowed us to have FREE WILL. I KNOW that God is real. Believe what you want to believe just dont mess with other people's faith.

Belief in God (for me) is not folly. You can't just go around saying that. I know you can express you opinion, but not in that manner. You can't just say things like that and make yourself sound right and final.

God is well aware of mans plight, but it is not God's doing. He created everything and it was good.Man (Adam) decided to stop thinking as a spiritual being and that was his choice.Man has created all the woes in the world by believing that the mortal man is real.If you put your child down and he falls asleep and has a nightmare, is it your fault? did you create it?or did your child create it in his mind? You know its not real ,but to your child its very real.all you can do is try to awaken the child out of this illusion. That's what God tries to do. Jesus tried to awaken us by destroying the illusion of death and disease. Is it fair to blame the parent for the child's nightmare? Is it just to ask what kind of parent would do that to their children? no ,its not the parents fault. The child must physically awaken and mankind must spiritually awaken.
