And there we go again, people comparing homosexuality to pedophilia.
Yet another person who doesn't know the difference between healthy and disorder, between consent and rape.
So sad.
Never will I say that simply because one "can't help it", one should be permitted to "do it". Constantly desiring a physical relationship that must be coerced and often forced with those incapable of providing reasoned & informed consent (in other words, desiring only rape) is psychologically unhealthy in clinical terms. It's unhealthy, but not illegal. The act of rape IS illegal. While a pedophile who doesn't rape children is on the good side of the law, he's still "sick" in that his innate thought processes are bent towards one end - to satisfy his needs by means of rape.
Homosexuality IN AND OF ITSELF is not dangerous. Unsafe sex is dangerous. A mere sexual orientation is not. And please, don't confuse "sexual orientation" with the surging of hormones. It's true that the most basic element of homosexuality is the capacity to be attracted to the same sex, but a sexual orientation is always more than attraction alone.

if it was a choice i would be gay as the day is long.
no more PMS to deal with. no more mood swings.
less bitc**ng. and from what i have seen, and the ones that i know, Gay men usually have good educations. and successful jobs. maybe it is a case of grass being greener on the other side of the fence. but if it was a choice, then i would at least be able to try it out...but i simply am not attracted to men.
did we all choose to be heterosexual. when did you make your choice?
some things are wrong for differant reasons. i am sure that there is a gene or DNA strand that will give a person a violent behavior. this behavior causes harm to others in the community. thus it is not acceptable to the society. the same for pedophilia. this causes harm to our children. thus it is unacceptable.
but 2 men or 2 women having sex with each other by choice, does not cause harm to anyone or anything. so it for the most part is accepted. there are the folks that are afraid of them. and men that feel like their manhood is questioned by them. but these are the minority.

I don't that being gay is ever a choice -- I don't think it's purely genetic either, though. I've you've ever taken introductory courses in psychology and sociology, you would know just a few things about people, their environments, and how they develop.
First, people are modified as they grow and age through their environment -- our experiences throughout our lifetimes mold us into who we are, and whoever it is we will become ten years from now, and ten years from then . . . and so-on.
Secondly, very few things are purely genetic, and very few things are purely enviromental. There are genetic abberations that make people more likely to be something, like an alcholic or abusive partner, but unless the environment in which they are raised (and live) promotes that (ie, a parent is an alcoholic, one is abusive toward the other, or the child. . .) then it's much less likely.
I think it is the same with homosexuality. I'm gay. I can honestly tell you that at no point in my life did I ever wake up and decide to be gay -- but, just as surely, I can tell you that I'm confident that my sexuality isn't purely genetic. Does genetics have anything to do with it? Probably . . . to what extent, though, I don't know. Does the environment in which I was raised have anything to do with it? Undoubtedly -- and I have evidence, albeit controversial and undeveloped, to support that.
Finding a gene for something doesn't justify it because few things are purely genetic -- but lacking knowledge on a subject and turning something scientific and personal into something religious and denigrating is ridiculous.

Genes don't just evolve into dead ends. Genes are meant to procreate. There is no self destruct DNA. If there are, you can be sure, it has become distorted and false through things such as Fluoride and chloride and countless other chems in the water system of most cities and towns in America and some of the rest of the world, and this is just the beginning. Check out how many unnatural chemicals found in our ladies makeups alone, (885 last count by FDA) not counting food products, and cleaning products.
Propensity, can be gotten from anywhere. The brain can create itself. Synapses and channels form from use. When you choose to not use these passageways, (breaking habits etc.) that is up to you and you alone. Some people have a propensity to spit.

Research has show that there is a genetic predisposition to homosexuality. But environmental factors (abuse, exposure, the values of surrounding society and culture) are responsible for a person to actually become gay. Nobody truly chooses to be straight or gay, in your heart of hearts you are what you are. We can say whether or not we comfortable with what we are, we can even try to hide by acting in other ways. But I can't change from being straight, anymore then a gay person can change from being homosexual. Its not that being homosexual is wronge or unacceptable, our culture just wants every body to be a cookie cutter cut-out. No unique-ness, no difference, we live in a society very similar to the days of Hitler. Instead of burning people we don't consider normal, we outcast them, and make them form there own communities. That way the bigots can hold there noses high in there, thinking that everyone outside of their view of normal is inferior to them. What a sad state. I hear Europe is more relaxed, I hope there are some open minded people in other parts of the world.

Homosexuality has not been proven to be a caused by genetics, so we can just throw that theory out right now. I'm not saying science won't prove it in the future, but right now they haven't.
I personally have no problems with gay people. I have lots of gay friends. I love them, they are wonderful. But I do believe that they have made a choice to be gay. That's just my opinion.
And I think you're a little off base by comparing homosexuals and pedophiles.
Pedophiles have an uncontrollable urge and desire to perform sexual acts with children. They still have a choice as to whether or not they act on those urges though. Many people have uncontrollable sexual urges, but they don't go out raping people. The men who act on their pedophilic desire are sick and criminal.
So there you have it, you can't really compare them with gay people! I'm not gay and I feel slightly offended by the comparison!
I just don't think this debate is ever going to die. I wish it would though. People are going to continue to be gay regardless of whether we believe it is a choice or not. We should all just agree to disagree and try to life without hate in our hearts.
Anyone else agree?

There is a very big difference between one's orientation, and what makes one a killer, or a pedophile, or one who does other vile things. There are many mysteries that science has uncovered, and many more that science has yet to uncover. What makes people gay, lesbian or in my case transsexual (please calm down, I'm single, practice abstinence, and I am happily abstinent, there is a huge universe out there beyond sex!) has yet to be completely explained.
But I do have to add that lust, of any kind (homo or heterosexual) is indeed a sin. It says so in the Bible, and I have studied it, and I agree.
I personally believe that what we do, what we think and say is measured whether it is of love or lust, of selflessness or selfishness, whether one does something "Christian" or "secular". doesn't it say that God judges the heart, and not the outward appearance?
Ok, I've said my peace, and await your thumbs downs.

Nobody know the cause of homosexuality, but sometimes you do get one identical twin who is gay and one who isn't. The most famous example in my country were gangsters Ron and Reg Kray.
Paedophilia and terrorism can't be judged in the same bracket as they actually cause harm to other people, unlike consensual homosexual acts.
If Pastor Art shows up here, ignore him.

It doesn't matter why they are gay. There's nothing wrong with it. Grow up. Why is it that every guy on here that is against homosexuality comes across as super gay. I picture the guy that asked this question as a flamer. He just rubs me that way. Come to think of it maybe it's the fact that he's rubbing me any way.

theres not really a debate.
theres strange people claiming it is a choice.
when its really obviously not.
one theory I've thought of, is that most of the population, is in fact some measure of bisexual, that is, that a small portion is 100% attracted to one gender or the other, and not at all to the other (regardless of the one they are attracted to or not, being their own)
and that a massive measure of the population is some measure of bisexual, even if only a small amount of attraction towards their own sex.
and that a large portion of those semi-bi people, *chose* at least subconciously, to deny and push away their attraction to the same-sex.
these people who *CHOSE* to only indulge/recognize/admit their heterosexual urges, when they *actually* have/had both, could, in their own mind, logically deduce that those who are homosexual, *chose* to be. ... like they *CHOSE* not to be.
but this does not change the fact that a 100% gay/straight person, really can't chose it at all. I could not chose to be sexually attracted to guys, even if i wanted to.
