A lot depends on the state you are in and his MOS (military occupational specialty). I believe I read that about 1/3 of the regular army have seen tours in the Middle East and numerous National Guard units have been activated over the past 5 years. Of course it is dangerous to a degree. It can be dangerous even if he doesn't go to war. Some are being activated to fight wildfires in the West. He may likely feel the need to help his fellow countryman in these sad times. You should be proud of willingness to commit. That said, it is probably inherently more dangerous, statistically, to drive on the freeway.

The chances are excellant that he will wind up in Iraq. They need replacements for those who have been at it for too long. Obviously, there is a need for replacement troops who have become statistics of this war, too !

Frankly, that should answer your forth question about the danger levels. Of coarse it is dangerous in Iraq. It is probably more dangerous for the inexperienced, low ranking individuals of any service, because those are the ones who most frequently become targets of the insurgents.

Many young troops return home unscathed, so there's no real way of assuring you that everything will be OK. We can only hope !

It really depends on his MOS. My best buddy enlisted in the Guard 2 years ago as a MP. He still has yet to be sent over. A year before he joined however his unit was deployed for about 12 months. It comes down to the luck of the draw.

It depends on what your bf will be doing on the level of danger he will be in. I am over here now and my personal level of danger is low because I do administrative work. We just replaced a National Guard unit that been over here 15months. So its likely he can be over here. We are all in some levevl of danger. make sure he has all the contact information from you so he can call you and write and email when he can. If he gets an address makes sure he gets it to him and start sending him stuff. Constant contact with your soldier will help. The level of danger exactly I can not comment on but again it dpends on where in IRaqi he is and what he will be doing. But he will never be doing anything alone. If he pays attention to his training he should be okay.

It depends on his MOS and what unit he is in. I know guys in National Guard units that have deployed 3 times, and I know guys in units that have never left the US.

As for the danger thing, again, it depends on his MOS. If he is a helicopter repair technician or something, his biggest danger will be not drinking enough water or something. If he is infantry, well, the danger goes up just a wee bit. You didn't provide enough information.

Depends on his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). There are three current operation of major size he could be assigned to. Operation Iraqi Freedom covers Iraq, Kuwait and the Gulf States. Operation Enduring Freedom covers Afghanistan. Operation Noble Eagle is defense of the U.S. homeland.

Yes there is a very good chance he is going to Iraq. What is his job? It's dangerous, but much will depend on what he does.

He could. War is dangerous. My son went over there twice as a part of the U.S. Army. He's back, and now out of the Army and beginning to attend college in September. He's working till then, and doing fine. God Bless you both.

Yes there is a good chance, yes it is dangerous. But he decided to serve our great country and preserve what we stand for. And for that he is a great American!
