I would like some help with decorating my new room. Im a student renting a room in a house. The room is large, is fairly well light and has high ceilings. The one problem with the room is its hideous dark terracotta carpet which i cant get rid of since Im only renting (I may be able to cover it up with large rugs if worst comes to worst!). I have looked around but can find nothing to go with the carpet and Im pretty clueless when it comes to matching things up. This room is pretty much empty apart from a bed and a Built in pine (I think?) wardrobe and it has cream coloured walls so Im open to colour suggestions so I can buy some new furniture and bed sheets.

Im a 19 y/old male and i was hoping for a light coloured room with natural colours.

I'd really appreciate any help you could offer with this. Thanks

I would go with beige sheets and spread, and curtains...solid beige spread and then go with colorful cushions..do some colorful pots of silk plants and do some pretty wall pictures and mirrors to take away from the dark carpet....Good Luck

Carpet Colours For Bedroom

Get some earth tones [ coffe brown, caramel tan, ivory ]
for bedding, curtains, throw pillows.
Add some brass in a large mirror, picture frames, etc.
Get a large rubber plant or small tree [ fake is OK ]
Buy a desk with shelving, good office chair, at least two lamps [ for bed and desk - you'll have a matched set for later], a nice reading chair, and some underbed storage bins.
If wood, a medium light to medium tone [ ash, pine, oak ]would probably match best with the pine.
Add a few paintings, posters, or photo collages [ family, friends, or vacations ]

First, choose your flooring before you choose your exact paint colour. I personally will never recommend laminate type floors. I've had them for 3 years and I have having them replaced this summer. They chip too easy, they move, the manufacturer does not follow their own warranties. If you can, have hardwood floors installed, they retain their value and easy to maintain or repair should something happen. If you choose carpet I would suggest cream or a light taupe. It will look good should you change your paint in the future. Once you have your flooring, then pick the shade of paint. Someone at the paint store can help you find the right shade. Good Luck!

It sounds like you can go with earth tones, or Moaca to brown or Think Miami with sea green to sea blues I think a terra cotta carpet would be fun to work with, what ever you come up with, give your decor a name and call it your own, Look at some magazines or go online for Miami themes. Have fun.

I'd go with ivory or creme colored walls, especially since you already have them... get light colored furniture, and some accents in chocolate and burgandy (one that goes with the rug not one that clashes). Put some cool pictures on the walls... frame them in burgandy frames.

Note that the dark rug will not show coffee or cola spills. There are good things to be said for that!!! And once you've been living there for a bit you won't notice it so much.

As a decorator, with cream colored walls any shade of green or blue for bedspread, then for accent colors use blue pillows, and pictures on the wall that contained all the colors in the room. For furniture use a light color, not white, but off white. If you want to add more color, use red candles, flowers, etc.

I'd would match it up with a sage green color. check out this web site look at the bedroom set which is a terracotta color with sage green. You can buy that at target. I would take a sample (pillowe case if you buy it) to a paint store like homedepot or lowes where they can match up a nice color for your wall or maybe you can go with a beige color, off white

I would use yellow and browns. try getting a color wheel to see what complementary colors you like. you can probably look up a color wheel on the internet or at a craft store in the painting section. the colors opposite the dominate one will go with it, and the adjacent ones to the dominate color (in your case, the terracotta) will complement. just have some fun!

A recent trend has been to combine terra cotta with turquoise. It's masculine and should work for you.
